Ericsson not targeted – May 31, 2009

By |2009-05-31T09:37:31-04:00May 31st, 2009|Hockey Rambling|

Ha - according to Sentium in the comments below, Swedish reporters were told by Ericsson that he was speared a few times during the game. So my little pot-stirring rant below has been bunked. That's actually my point - if players don't target a known injury in an important game, then players don't target injuries. [...]

Salak a Halak? – May 30, 2009

By |2009-05-30T10:13:15-04:00May 30th, 2009|Hockey Rambling|

TSN's reporting of the draft combine, found here, indicates that both Brayden Schenn and John Tavares may be suffering from upper body/shoulder injuries . They skipped out on all of the upper body tests. Ryan Ellis was excused from the combine, for unknown reasons. The Panthers have signed undrafted free agent goalie Alexander Salak to an ELC. [...]

The Bod will be back – May 29, 2009

By |2009-05-29T07:46:02-04:00May 29th, 2009|Hockey Rambling|

TSN has great coverage of the draft combine, which can be found here . Marek Zagrapan, who was ranked 61 on my prospects list, has signed to play in the KHL next year. Yep, he drops down the list... Red Wings injuries: Nick Lidstrom will play in Game 1; Kris Draper will not play in the first [...]

Pittsburgh Penguins Penultimate Playoff Push

Pittsburgh really schooled Carolina in playoff hockey this round. Okay, it helps when you have two of the top players in the game today and they are both lighting it up. Carolina simply ran out of gas.  When Crosby and Malkin rack up seven and nine points respectively in the four games against your team, you just aren’t going to win.

Atlanta to take Kane? – May 28, 2009

By |2009-05-28T07:53:27-04:00May 28th, 2009|Hockey Rambling|

Pittsburgh and Detroit - the series will start Saturday. Look for the panel's take on it tomorrow. Detroit rearguard Jonathan Ericsson was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and had to undergo surgery. It is expected that he will be back for Game 1. Don't ask me how that works, that's just what I've read. Martin Havlat finally missed [...]

Carolina eliminated – May 27, 2009

By |2009-05-27T09:29:01-04:00May 27th, 2009|Hockey Rambling|

There have been some reports that some members of the Montreal Canadiens' brass have been drunk a lot lately. In related news, there are also reports that Kovalev has been offered a contract in the $7 million range, as well as the captaincy. I think both reports need to be true, or neither are. Kovalev? Seriously? [...]

Where Will Vinny End Up?

One of the more intriguing stories this summer is the situation in Tampa Bay with Vincent Lecavalier. The Lightning’s financial problems have been no secret for a while now and Lecavalier’s monstrosity of a contract (he signed an 11-year, $85 million contract last summer) makes him an ideal player to trade to help alleviate some of these issues. As good a player as he is, his contract will make it tough for the Lightning to find full value in a trade.

Projections, Projections, We All Love Our Projections

Eriksson

Littered in the forums are plenty of questions regarding projections for next season. Does so and so have 65-point upside? Or between these two players who has the higher point potential? For those who have followed my columns in the past year, they would know that I’m a big stats-oriented guy, so this week I’m going to try to rationalize some projections by attaching some numerical values along with them.

Is Sim the biggest news today? – May 26, 2009

Info on the Prospects Report can be found HERE.  Peter Zezel has passed away. Details and story can be found here . He was a valuable member of the Maple Leafs and had a lot of fans, myself included. Sad news The Rangers have come to terms with prospect rearguard Michael Del Zotto. He is profiled [...]
