Fantasy Hockey Podcast: Werenski, Pearson, Panik, Boone, Matthews…and some interesting goalie situations

Afraid you've missed a single hockey news item or note from the past week? Or that you're misreading the numbers while trying to make sense of the outlandish player performances to date? Let this brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast be your antidote!

Pearson-mania all over again? Matthews a top 10 scorer? Is there an impressive Canuck? Is Brouwer a more interesting human being than fantasy own? Do we have a Jack Campbell sighting on the horizon? Time to panic about Panik? Jimmy How-muchlongercanhepossiblykeepthisup? Boone no longer a boon for fantasy owners? Montoya earning greater share of the starts? Elan begins by going way off script to officially anoint the heir of his hashtag-team allegiance for this season, and then gets to a welcome group of outjuries that are shaking up depth charts, including a new opportunity for a returned St Louis Blue, and a way out of the doghouse for a Boston Bruin.

Then it's over to injuries, where we draw particular attention to a new second-best power play option in Pittsburgh, weak goalie depth in Arizona and LA. Taking a tour of hot streaks around the league, Elan and Brian work to figure out when two overachieving Blackhawks may come down to earth, whether a Detroit blue-liner has hope of regaining his form of yesteryear, which ice time distribution quirks are favouring which Hurricanes, and whether Huberdeau's replacement in Florida is earning his keep on the top line. Elan also gets pretty sad about not having enough patience for a certain Leaf centreman to contribute to his roster, and gets very un-sad about a second line centre in Colorado.

The guys also examine the meaning of roster moves made in Columbus and Anaheim, and line changing madness happening in Calgary, Nashville and New Jersey– the last of which has Elan wondering whether there's more than one fantasy relevant Devil to be owned. The show wraps up with some early snoozer candidates, including this year's edition of a quality winger struggling in Vancouver, a non-Okposo in Brooklyn, a couple goalies struggling in Canadian creases, and an Atlantic PPQB with nothing to show for his efforts.

Players discussed on this episode include Carey Price, Richard Panik, Auston Matthews, Jimmy Howard, Tanner Pearson, Zach Werenski, Shayne Gostisbehere, Mike Green, Jaden Schwartz, David Perron, Nail Yakupov, Patrice Bergeron, Ryan Spooner, Michael Stone, Alex Goligoski, Brayden Schenn, Matt Read, Tanner Pearson, Mike Smith, Louis Domingue, Justin Peters, Jeff Zatkoff, Petr Budaj, Jack Campbell, Patrick Sharp, Ales Hemsky, Brett Ritchie, Radek Faksa, Justin Schultz, Marc-Andre Fleury, Brian Campbell, Duncan Keith, Jonathan Marchessault,  Lee Stempniak, Victor Rask, Jeff Skinner, Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, Elias Lindholm, Alex Killorn, Petr Mrazek, Nazem Kadri, Kari Lehtonen, Sergei Bobrovsky, William Nylander, Mitch Marner, Matt Duchene, Mikhail Grigorenko, Mikko Rantanen, Shea Theodore, Brandon Carlo, Torey Krug, Cam Fowler, Sami Vatanen, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Boone Jenner, Johnny Boychuk, Kris Versteeg, Troy Brouwer, Viktor Arvidsson, Kevin Fiala, TJ Brodie, Brian Elliott, Frederik Andersen, Loui Eriksson, Brandon Sutter, Andrew Ladd and more.

Looking forward to listening to the podcast tonight. What is your take on Radulov this year? I think I remember you saying he has looked good despite his lack of production. Should I remain patient with him?

He’s playing great hockey, but he’s not in a position to hit the point production many people pegged for him (He’ll remain on Line 2, and he isn’t getting PP1 time), so I wouldn’t expect much more than 50 points. Whether or not you should remain patient with him depends on the type of league you’re in / the depth of your league.
