Here’s the latest news in the world of NHL injuries! To see injury updates from around the league as soon as they’re made public, follow me on Twitter @BrennanDeSouza!

Hampus LindholmHas been skating but sat out of Tuesday’s game against the Jets because of a lower-body injury. Coach Dallas Eakins is optimistic that Lindholm will be ready to return later this week as the Ducks host the Canucks on Friday and Blackhawks on Sunday. The 25-year-old defenseman has had a really strong start to the season with nine assists in 12 games.

Josh MansonWas seen wearing crutches after Thursday’s game against the Stars. As Manson attempted to check Jason Dickinson, his knee hit the Stars’ forward at an awkward angle. Manson couldn’t put any weight on his leg and needed to be helped off the ice. The team hasn’t released an official timeline just yet, but I’d expect him to miss a significant stretch of games.

Ondrej KaseHas missed Anaheim’s last three games with an upper-body injury and hasn’t been skating recently. We’ve been holding our breath waiting for this guy to break out for some time now, but he continues to have bad luck with injuries. Speaking of bad luck, he’s scoring on just 3.8% of his shots so far this year, which is bound to improve as the season progresses. Expect a more detailed update of Kase’s status at some point within the next few days.

Brandon MontourMontour has been recovering from a hand injury that he suffered during preseason action and finally participated in practice for the first time in over a month. Fortunately, since the injury didn’t stop him from skating, he was able to keep his strength and conditioning at a high level. While there’s no official timeline for his return, his status is now “day-to-day” and he should be back in the lineup within the next few games.

Gabriel LandeskogColorado’s captain suffered a lower-body injury during a recent game that will cause him to miss a ‘significant’ period of time. You might remember that Mikko Rantanen was ruled week to week when he suffered a lower-body injury last week. Coach Jared Bednar revealed that Landeskog’s injury will require more time off than the typical ‘week to week’ injury. Essentially, this isn’t a situation where the team will be monitoring Landeskog’s status each week until he’s eventually ready to go. Rather, they probably realize he’s going to need a few weeks off before we can even start talking about a return. Joonas Donskoi and Nazem Kadri have been skating alongside Nathan MacKinnon with Landeskog and Rantanen out of the lineup.

Ryan Murray – Will miss three to four weeks of action because of a broken hand. The second overall pick of the 2012 draft has been bombarded by injuries throughout his career, with just one 82-game season under his belt as he enters his seventh year of play.

Alexandre TexierThe Blue Jackets forward will be out for two to four weeks as he recovers from a knee injury. The 20-year-old winger has just three points through 11 games this season which makes sense considering he’s been playing just 13 minutes a night.

Vincent Trocheck Has missed Florida’s last four games as he deals with a lower-body injury. Coach Joel Quenneville mentioned a few days ago that he hopes to have Trocheck return before the end of the team’s road trip which ends on Wednesday in Colorado. In any case, Trocheck should be back soon. The newly-acquired Brian Boyle has filled in the nicely as the team’s second line center, with three points in four games.

Filip ForsbergPracticed with the team on Monday, for the first time since suffering a lower-body injury on October 15th. He was sporting a non-contact jersey, so we might have to wait until he’s a full participant in practice before we can start projecting a return. In any case, he’s been progressing well and should return to the lineup soon.

Jordan EberleHas been doing some light skating on his own as he recovers from a lower-body injury. His status remains day-to-day but the team has no idea when exactly he’s going to return.

Mika ZibanejadNew York’s leading scorer left Sunday’s game against the Bruins after he was hit by Patrice Bergeron. The hit appeared to catch Zibanejad’s up high, but coach David Quinn revealed that his forward didn’t suffer a head injury on the play. Zibanejad sat out of Tuesday’s clash with the Lightning and is officially day-to-day with an upper-body injury. In his absence, Ryan Strome played with Artemi Panarin while Filip Chytil played between Chris Kreider and Pavel Buchnevich. Strome put up two points against Tampa Bay and has an impressive 10 point in his last eight games.

Evgeni MalkinWas skating every day last week which enabled him to finally practice with his teammates on Monday. The Penguins hope to have their star forward back in the lineup on Sunday when they take on the Oilers. It was originally reported that Malkin would miss at least a month with a soft-tissue leg injury, so it’s great to hear that he’s ahead of schedule.

Alexander SteenMissed Monday’s practice for ‘maintenance’, so his status for Wednesday’s game against the Wild is up in the air.

Vladimir TarasenkoThe Russian sniper will be out for at least five months as he recovers from shoulder surgery. He had a solid start to the season with 10 points in 10 games, but it might be safe to drop him if you’re in a one-year fantasy league. It looks like Sammy Blais will play on the top line with Jaden Schwartz and Brayden Schenn against Minnesota on Wednesday.

Brayden PointWas a game-time decision on Tuesday because of a minor ailment that came up recently (it’s not something he’s been playing through for a while). He did end up playing against the Rangers on Tuesday night, but keep an eye on his status for Wednesday’s game against the Devils.

Anthony Cirelli Was a game-time decision on Tuesday and ended up sitting out with a lower-body injury. He’s officially day-to-day and coach Jon Cooper is hopeful that whatever Cirelli is dealing with isn’t cause for long-term concern.

Victor HedmanLeft Tuesday’s game against the Rangers with a lower-body injury and is officially day-to-day. His status for Wednesday’s clash against the Rangers hasn’t yet been determined. Follow me on Twitter @BrennanDeSouza to find out whether or not he’ll be in the lineup!

Jake MuzzinThe Leafs defenseman exited Tuesday’s tilt with the Capitals as he suffered a leg injury. The ailment was later revealed to be a charley horse or muscle spasms that can cause a lot of pain. As I write this, the team hasn’t released any further updates on Muzzin’s status.

Zach HymanHas been skating with the team but is still about a week or two away from making his season debut. Hyman is an underrated part of the Leafs roster and I think the team will improve once the Hyman-Tavares-Marner line is reunited as that trio was excellent last year.

John TavaresLast we heard, Toronto’s captain hadn’t yet gotten an updated image of his broken finger so there were no updates to his recovery timeline. He’s been doing everything but handling a puck in order to keep his conditioning at a high level. Coach Mike Babcock did reveal that Tavares should be back before Hyman, which implies that he’ll return in a week or so.

Nate Schmidt Participated in Monday’s practice and was recently activated from Injured Reserve. All signs point to him returning to the lineup on Thursday against Montreal.

Alex TuchWas a full participant in Monday’s practice and is expected to make his season debut on Thursday when Vegas hosts the Canadiens. Tuch was skating on the team’s third line with Cody Eakin and Cody Glass. The 23-year-old could have broken the 60-point barrier last year had he stayed healthy and his late start to this campaign should have him flying under the radar in most fantasy leagues.

Patrik LaineMissed Tuesday’s game against the Ducks with a lower-body injury that has been bothering him for about a week. The issue was aggravated when Laine collided with Luca Sbisa during Monday’s practice. Officially, Laine is out on a day-to-day basis, but I’m expecting him to return in Winnipeg’s next game – Friday against the Sharks. The 21-year-old forward has an excellent start to the season with 13 points in 12 games. He was criticized heavily last year as he had just 20 assists through 82 games. With the first month of NHL action behind us, Laine already has 10 assists.

Non-Injury Related Absences

Nikita Gusev – The Devils forward will be a healthy scratch on Wednesday and will watch the game from a suite with Patrik Elias. His possession numbers have been horrendous so far this season and his defensive play has been abysmal. The team is well aware of his offensive upside and hopes this short reset and mentoring from a European legend will allow Gusev to find his game in the NHL.
