Welcome to another edition of injury news from around the NHL. If you don’t see a player here, there probably hasn’t been a significant update on their status. But fear not, you can always follow me on Twitter @BrennanDeSouza for the latest injury information.

Ryan Getzlaf – The Ducks’ captain is currently day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Coach Randy Carlyle said on Monday that he expected to know more about the injury’s severity “soon”. In Getzlaf’s absence, Adam Henrique has been promoted to the top line alongside Rickard Rakell and Troy Terry. Expect a more detailed update from the Ducks to be released in the coming days. To see that update as soon as it’s released, follow me on Twitter @BrennanDeSouza.

Patrick EavesHas been skating with his teammates, but his shoulder still isn’t at 100 percent as he continues to recover from surgery. We still don’t have a definite timeline for his return, but expect it sooner rather than later.

Ryan Kesler – No major update here. Like Eaves, he has been skating with teammates, but his body still isn’t ready for the rigours of an NHL game. I know the injuries are piling up for Anaheim and a lot of Ducks are sitting, but they’re currently 3-0 thanks to the strong play of John Gibson. So, they don’t need to rush their veterans back and risk their long-term health in the process.

Scott DarlingWas on the ice Monday, skating and getting a feel for the puck. It wasn’t the intense practice we expect before a return, but it’s an important first step in his recovery.

Corey CrawfordStill on track for a return on October 18th against the Arizona Coyotes. According to Mark Lazerus (who covers the Blackhawks for the Athletic), “Crawford looks great”. Lazerus noted how much progress Crawford has made since the beginning of training camp and how he seems to look like himself again. He’s been out of action for a while, so when he does return, it might be smart to let him play a few games and gauge his value before accordingly making a move to acquire him.

Brandon Dubinsky – The Blue Jackets’ forward will miss the next four to six weeks with a strained oblique muscle. Expect an increased role for Alexander Wennberg and Riley Nash in Dubinsky’s absence.

Roberto LuongoThe Panthers’ net minder will miss the next two to four weeks with a Grade 1 MCL injury. If it was anything like my Grade 1 experience, there’s going to be a lot of colouring. In all seriousness, this creates a big opportunity for James Reimer, who’s currently available in 56% of Yahoo leagues. In the coming weeks, Florida has quite a few matchups against teams that didn’t make the playoffs last year (Vancouver, Detroit, Rangers and Islanders). So, Reimer could make a good short-term addition.

Jonathan Quick – The Kings’ goaltender is week-to-week with a lower-body that he suffered during Saturday’s practice. Jack Campbell has taken over the starting duties in Quick’s absence, and has looked impressive through two games (against Winnipeg and Detroit), allowing two goals in each game. Once Quick starts practicing again, we can start projecting dates for his return. Until then, all we can do is hope he recovers Quick-ly! I’ll see myself out…

Dustin BrownCoach John Stevens revealed Brown will be out for weeks and not months. So, I’d expect him to be back before 2019 rolls around, obviously that’s not very specific, but hopefully we get a more accurate timetable in the coming weeks. With four points in three games, Alex Iafallo is thriving in Brown’s spot alongside Anze Kopitar and Ilya Kovalchuk.

Jesper BrattIn a freak incident at practice, an errant puck rebounded off the crossbar and hit Bratt, leaving him with a fracture in his jaw. He’ll be out for the next two to three weeks.

Cory SchneiderThe Devils’ netminder will be evaluated sometime this week to see how he is progressing through rehab, and ultimately if he can be cleared to play. There’s a very real chance Schneider gets a few starts in the AHL to get him back into the swing of things – a conditioning assignment before returning to the NHL.

James van Riemsdyk – The Flyers’ forward will be out for the next five to six weeks with a lower-body injury. To see how this affects Philadelphia from a fantasy perspective, check out Mike’s work in Tuesday’s ramblings.

Matt MurrayThe Penguins’ goaltender suffered a concussion during Monday’s practice, and is out indefinitely. This is Murray’s third concussion in his four-year career, so we might need to consider his injury history when gauging his value going forward. Concussions are such an enigma in the medical community because of how differently they can affect different people. Concussion-like symptoms can be present for extremely long periods of time, let’s hope that’s not the case for Murray. Tristan Jarry should get the bulk of the starts in Murray’s absence.

Joe ThorntonThe San Jose Sharks’ forward is currently on antibiotics to treat a knee infection, Given Thornton’s injury history, it’s extremely encouraging to see structural damage is not an issue at the moment. Both GM Doug Wilson and Thornton downplayed the severity of the injury, the clearly don’t expect Jumbo Joe to be out long-term.

Tyler JohnsonBarring any setbacks, Johnson should be in the lineup when Tampa Bay faces Vancouver on Thursday. It looks like he’ll make his season debut on a line with Yanni Gourde and Brayden Point.

Paul Stastny – A lower-body injury will keep the Golden Knights’ forward out for at least the next three games. After those three games, he will be re-evaluated and the team will figure out what steps to take. The earliest date he can return is Tuesday October 16, but it might be a bit longer.
