Top Budget Plays

Centers

Stephen Weiss$2,600 –Yes Weiss can be quite a streaky player and his minutes can be best described as 3rd/4th line minutes but somehow he is effective and that is the bottom line. If you play him controlled and sheltered then Weiss can provide a decent presence and a couple points a night which is all you really need at his price. Dallas gave up five goals to San Jose so why couldn't a bottom six player have a pretty good night again. Is it written in the stars?

Wingers

Steve Bernier $2,900 –I love a good gamble and in an ugly game where both teams are on the back end of back to backs, Bernier is at least a good choice to plug in against Carolina. What is the worst that could happen, right? The winger has seven goals in his last 13 games and though his shots per game is a meager 1.3, at least you can count on him for at least a couple pretty good opportunities a night. The sad part is there are some top six players on New Jersey that are far worse than Bernier and they play 18-20 minutes no matter what. At least he gives it a damn good try and at this price, maybe that ought to count for something.

Defensemen

Danny DeKeyser $2,700– I thought about quite a few options before coming back to DeKeyser but none just seemed quite at the level of hey, let's take him. Yes he has 21 points in 52 games which makes him a decent option. Again this kind of picking the bargain basement for value. If you use $1500 per point as a rule then look at what the player is doing lately, it does give you a decent look at his upside or lack of. Sometimes a couple points as opposed to zero makes the difference.

Goalie

Keith Kinkaid $6,400 –It is time to man up and take some risks if you are really desperate in a GPP tonight. Kinkaid is the probable starter for New Jersey as Schneider is likely to be given the night off. Carolina is a tough and scrappy team that usually has New Jersey's number but does not score a lot on the road (just over two goals a contest). If the Devils can muster just a little bit of offense then that gives Kinkaid owners a shot at a rather cheap win. If for some reason, Schneider does play, do not fret, we will toss another value goalie on Twitter come late Saturday.

Since we saved some money on the budget plays let's look at the few of the pricey options that are worth paying up for today.

Centers

Sidney Crosby $7,500 –Crosby is a nice buy low candidate and yet is still producing at somewhat of a decent rate despite only having points in one of his last six contests. Keep in mind that at some point the center is going to start on another point scoring streak and though St. Louis will be at home, they will not be rested. Pittsburgh will be. The Penguins have been meandering around for the last six weeks or so and now find themselves fourth in the Metro Division. Crosby is also at a season low 1.07 points per game and that cannot sit well with him or fantasy owners but hey that price is about $1,000 lower than it usually is.
