Cheap Players for Daily Fantasy Hockey – February 28, 2015.

Top Budget Plays

Centers

Travis Zajac $3,000 –Yes the numbers really have plummeted for Zajac but he did score a power play goal on Friday night and that is something to hold on to. The center is now basically a third line forward who plays some power play time. The fall has been especially painful for fantasy owners but at one time last year, the forward was pretty reliable. Now, you never know when he is even going to hit the net. Columbus is a rather decent match-up and this is at least worth a shot.

Wingers

Since we saved some money on the budget plays let's look at the few of the pricey options that are worth paying up for today.

Centers

Patrice Bergeron  $8,000– Someone had to step up with all the Boston injuries and out came Patrice Bergeron. He has nine points in his last nine games and has done everything and I mean everything you could ask for in a center. Bergeron wins tons of face-offs, is firing more pucks on net, and obviously piling up the points. It almost does not matter what line he plays on but Bergeron is Boston's most reliable and consistent forward. No one else really comes close. Arizona is a pretty good team to pile up points on.

Wingers

Jeff Skinner $5,600 –You have to take the plunge and wingers really do not have expensive options. Filip Forsberg was considered but in the end, Skinner was just the unexpected and that seemed to work. Assists are a concern but if he keeps scoring goals, because that is the name of the game. After all a goal is worth 3.5 points or more. Typically a goal is worth three points and then another half point for the shot on goal. He has been averaging 3.6 shots per game over the last ten games. That is a good sign!

Defensemen

Roman Josi$7,000 –This is where I spend! Nashville plays Detroit and the Red Wings are more than apt to give up some goals. The Predators have to play better against these upper echelon teams as lately it has been more miss than hit at times. There are certain ways to attack Detroit and Nashville has one of the, if not best, defensive pairings in the league. Shea Weber is at $6,500 if you are feeling a little gun shy. The options are there and the fact that both defenseman are usually in the top ten in power play time is a helpful sign to select him.

Goalie

Pekka Rinne$8,800 –The price is not great but if you have the money then let the spending begin! Rinne is in a big spot and at least worth the money to start as even the other low expense goalie have varying degrees of risk associated with them. Though the struggle has been real for Rinne over the last several starts, an afternoon game at home should be helpful. He is at the very least worth the money spent. Expect a solid amount of rubber faced.
