Petr Cajanek cleared waivers and has been assigned to Peoria. David Perron has made the Blues roster after a surprisingly strong camp. He'll start out on a scoring line and warrants a flyer in deep roto pools. He is a must-own in keeper leagues. He ranked 185 in my fantasy prospects list – again, because I felt he was a few years away. His making the team shoots him up to around 50th.  

There may be more to Patzold beating out Greiss as the backup in San Jose. It turns out that not only was he born in the same town that Nabokov was, but Nabokov's father was Patzold's goalie coach.

Devin Setoguchi and Torrey Mitchell have made the Sharks and will start the season on the third line together. Setoguchi, ranked 46 on my prospect list, has an upside of 80 points and could tally as much as 45 this season, but see if he sticks past the nine-game mark first. Mitchell, ranked 281 on account of him being several years away (or so I thought), has an upside of 70 points and likely won't make the same impact that Setoguchi will this year. Needless to say, though, he leaps into the Top 100 with this news.

Dallas center Mike Ribeiro is about a week away from returning from his sprained ankle. 

David Tanabe was released by the Blues. He was in camp on a tryout basis. 

The Flyers have waived Denis Gauthier and Mike Rathje will likely retire – that will clear up some of the logjam on the back end. 

Jose Theodore will likely not be ready for the first game of the season, but he is very close.

Pittsburgh will likely enter the season with the following line combos: Staal, Crosby and Sykora. Malone, Malkin and Recchi. Roberts, Christensen and Armstrong. Ruutu, Talbot and Laraque. Hall will be the spare forward. This obviously looks promising for Staal owners.

Dustin Byfuglien (pulled muscle in his rib cage), Niklas Hjalmarsson (wrist) and Andrei Zyuzin (groin) — are expected to be placed on injured reserve. Ruutu and Havlat are expected to play on Thursday, while Toews is questionable.

Denis Savard said forward Patrick Kane, the top overall pick last June, ''might not play every night.'' he needs to produce to keep playing, so the first three or four games are important in terms of indicators.

The Blues placed Petr Cajanek on waivers. That is likely to shed the Blues of his salary, as opposed to an attempt to send him to the minors but I am unable to dig up a reason for sure at this time. 

Because Ales Kotalik is on the shelf (knee), Clarke MacArthur has made the Sabres – for now. Kotalik's spot on the Jason Pominville / Tim Connolly line will be taken by Jochen Hecht. Remember what I said in the pool guide about Hecht's production when Kotalik and Afinogenov were out of the lineup… 

Boston GM Peter Chiarelli anticipates signing Glen Metropolit to a contract within a few days. 

Young power forward Milan Lucic has made the Boston Bruins. He will have little impact on fantasy leagues this year, as power forwards generally take time to get rolling. Eventually, he should be one of the better power forwards in the game. 

Kari Lehtonen will start on opening night for Atlanta – in case there was any doubt in your mind. 

Tomas Fleischmann played well enough in camp that he earned a contract. The Caps signed him to a one-year deal, ensuring that he will play with the big club this year. He will start on Ovechkin's line, in all likelihood and bears watching. If it works out, you could see production in the 60's. A conservative guess is low 40's though.

The Caps sent Ben Clymer to Hershey.

The Canucks cut Dan McGillis, Luc Bourdon, Rick Rypien, Michael Grabner and Jannik Hansen, among others. Ryan Shannon, who is on a two-way contract, made the team despite the odds – hopefully you took your direction from my pool guide on this one.

The Blues cut Martin Kariya. Mike Johnson is still around and the last spot will go to him or David Perron.

The Coyotes sent Bill Thomas back to San Antonio – that move was unexpected to say the least, but then – if Hanzal earns a spot and the team goes with three goalies (which they are, for now), that means someone has to go.

The Rangers cut Nigel Dawes, Andrew Hutchinson, Artem Anisimov and Al Montoya. Dubinsky has made the squad.

The Avs have cut Cody McCormick
