The Canucks signed Ryan Shannon, who is a great dark horse – he's not there to be a checker, I'll tell you that much. Watch him and his role in camp.
The 'Hawks signed Jim Vandermeer and Danny Richmond.
The Preds signed their last RFA – Vern Fiddler. Two years, $1.7 million. They have about $1.5 (give or take a half mill) to add to their roster to hit the NHL salary floor.
The Caps gave Chris Clark a three-year extension. Not sure what the rush was there, but anyway…
Mark Hartigan has signed with the Red Wings. He'll get a look on the third line. He has shown flashes of offense with limited opportunities…but is a long shot at best to put up fantasy worthy numbers.
FYI guys – this went unreported in a lot of places, including this one, but Andy Hilbert was not qualified by the Islanders, so he is a UFA.
'Butch' pointed out to me in the forum that Hilbert did indeed sign. Two days into UFA season he signed a two-year deal with the Islanders. The NHLPA website has him listed as belonging to the Islanders and getting $650,000.
Garnet Exelby signed a three-year deal with Atlanta yesterday. Only Jim Slater has yet to sign with that team now.
Kurtis Foster signed a one-year deal with the Wild yesterday.
The Avs also signed tough guy Dale Purinton to a one year contract, which will hurt Cody McCormick's ice time. Mark Rycroft also signed with the team yesterday.
It looks like Martin Gelinas is close to re-signing with the Florida Panthers. He was hoping to play in Western Canada but recieved little interest.
Yanick Tremblay has signed to play in the Swiss League next season.
The Colorado Avalanche have signed Jeff Jillson to a one-year deal.
Bryce Lampman, recently acquired from the Rangers, has signed on with the Lightning. No fantasy impact either here or with the Jillson signing.
The Sens have also signed a depth defenseman. Matt Kinch played in the German League last winter.
The Caps have signed center Jason Morgan as a free agent. He will center Alexander Ovechkin and should post somewhere in the 80 to 90-point range. I'm kidding, of course. He'll play in Hershey.
