The Islanders have lost winger Jon Sim for the remainder of the regular season. Sim severely tore some ligaments in his knee, so that's it for him and this season.

Robert Esche has signed with Ak Bars Kazan.

Quick AHL info: Robert Nilsson was sent back to the AHL to regain his confidence. He has four points in two games and is a plus-4. Looks to me like he will be back up soon.

Kris Letang has five assists in five games for Wilkes-Barre. Jonathan Filewich and Ryan Stone have just two assists each – not good enough for a cup of coffee in the NHL. The next callups will be Taffe and/or Kennedy, who are playing quite well in the 'A'.

Chris Conner has three goals, four points and is a plus-5 for Iowa. Dallas will call him up first injury they get. 

Denis Grebeshkov will draw back into the lineup with the injury to Souray.

Noah Welch separated his shoulder and is out indefinitely.

Henrik Zetterberg has a hip flexor injury and is questionable for tonight's game. 

Carey Price will get the start tonight against Ottawa. Two career starts – against Crosby, Malkin one game… and Spezza, Heatley, Alfredsson the next. Welcome! 

With his shoulder injury, Souray will miss six weeks.

Randy Robitaille cleared waivers and will be in the Ottawa lineup tonight. 

Fredrik Modin has a slight tear in his groin and will miss more than a week.

Gilbert Brule centered a line with Novotny and Fritsche last night and saw some time on the PP. He still had just 7:31 of ice time.

Duvie Westcott was a healthy scratch.

Joel Quenneville has not released who will start Friday's game for Colorado. My money is on Theodore though.

Stefan Ruzicka, the AHL's leading scorer, will likely replace Ben Eager in the lineup tonight. Eager is still suffering from dizzy spells.

Alex Auld will get the start for Phoenix tonight.

Zbynek Michalek (broken hand) may be back in the lineup Thursday at Anaheim.

Freddy Meyer IV and his wife had a son on Tuesday – yep, he's Freddy Meyer V.

Rene Bourque is doubtful for both games this weekend.

Jed Ortmeyer was scratched for the first time Wednesday after playing in the team's first five games. His place in the lineup was taken by Scott Nichol, who played his third game of the season and joined the line of Jason Arnott and J.P. Dumont.

Legwand, Martin Erat and Alexander Radulov clicked all evening against the Ducks, controlling the puck and cycling for long stretches at a time.

Defenseman Kevin Klein has recovered from his separated shoulder and will likely be activated from injured reserve in the next day or two.

Shea Weber will begin skating within the next few days and from there will be about two weeks away from returning. He had dislocated his kneecap.

Alexander Semin will not play tonight and is questionable for Saturday's game against the Pens.

In practice, Motzko skated alongside all-star Alex Ovechkin and center Viktor Kozlov, and Fleischmann played with rookie Nicklas Backstrom and center Michael Nylander. 

The Sabres have recalled rearguard Andrej Sekara from Rochester.

Last night Travis Zajac played over 20 minutes and Zach Parise played over 21 minutes. Patrick Elias played 19:23. Elias played just over seven minutes on the PP, whereas the two youngsters played over eight. I'm starting to see a shift in offensive responsibility – a passing of the torch – to the next generation of Devils. Zajac had two goals and Parise had three assists last night.

This new forechecking system of the Devils is not only more entertaining… but it's killing Martin Brodeur. His 3.41 and .876 numbers will straighten out, but they'll never get to the level that we are used to seeing from him. His shutouts will be down this year as well.

John Madden has six points in his last five games.

As I wrote in today's Daily Slate : Detroit Red Wings' forward Henrik Zetterberg is off to a blazing start. His eight goals and 13 points are good for the early lead in the NHL scoring race, tied with Colorado's super soph, Paul Stastny. But this early season surge is not so much a short-term blip as it is a continuation of last season–Zetterberg is simply picking up where he left off. Zetterberg, who turned 27 last week, ended the 2006-07 campaign with 49 points in his final 31 contests. Including this year's 13 points, that works out to 62 points in his last 38 regular season games, which pro-rates to 134 points over a full season. 

Marc-Andre Fleury is still kicking out brutal rebounds. He'll get his wins, but I'm starting to think it will be Grant Fuhr style – allow lots of goals…but stop just enough for the win. For the time being, I would put him on my bench.

Sergei Samsonov played 17:20 and got lots of PP time, but was still held pointless last night.

The Ducks have finally won two games in a row and JS Giguere has been back for two games.

Drew Miller scored his first career NHL goal last night. 

Alexander Radulov played 18:45 last night and has points in four straight games. He was one of the few Preds who was not a minus player.
