TSN is reporting that Simon Gagne is done for the season. It's for the best. Give his head a chance to heal properly so it doesn't happen again every 10th game  that he plays.

The Caps returned Eric Fehr to the minors.

Washington line combos: Ovechkin- Backstrom- Fleischmann, Pettinger -Kozlov -Semin

The results of Lidstrom's exam – he will be out for three weeks with a sprained knee.

Expect Patrick Marleau back in the lineup tonight.

Derek Roy missed yesterday's practice with the flu but will be in the lineup tonight.

Tim Connolly will be in the lineup tonight, but probably not tomorrow night.

Once again, my weekly mailbag is now up on The Hockey News. Check it out HERE.

More will be known of Lidstrom's knee sprain later today. Meanwhile, Brian Rafalski's groin injury will probably keep him out of the lineup Friday.

Sergei Zubov's groin is still sore, even as his foot is getting better. The Stars will continue to rest him. He will not play in February. My guess is mid-March.

Philippe Boucher took some light contact yesterday in practice. He should be back in about a week.

With Jaroslav Modry off to Philly, the Kings recalled Peter Harrold.

Still with defensemen, Vancouver rearguard Kevin Bieksa is rumored to be close enough to start lacing up for the Manitoba Moose for a conditioning stint. Expect news on that within a couple of days.

Jason Williams will return from his sports hernia surgery tonight.

Jaromir Jagr assisted on four straight goals last night, indicating that he is heating up. The Rangers chased Carey Price from the net, but then blew a 5-0 lead to lose 6-5.

Michael Ryder has four points in two games since being a healthy scratch.

Doug Weight is back skating. He has a strained shoulder that his him out day to day.

Taylor Pyatt's upper body injury has him questionable for tonight's contest. The Canucks are hush hush about it. Good ol' disclosure.

Jared Boll was back in the Columbus lineup yesterday.

Peter Budaj will get the start today. Theodore has started 17 of the last 20 games.

Paul Stastny says that he is close now and that he hopes to return Friday.

Joe Sakic is targeting Sunday, but it may be Wednesday before we see his return from sports hernia surgery.

Claude Giroux played 9:27 in his first career NHL game. He was pointless and a minus-1. He played right wing on a line with Briere and Hartnell.

Erik Christensen (shoulder) will be out for at least another week.

Crosby is still skating. No word on his return yet, but keep checking in – you will need to activate him right away and I will try and get the news on here within seconds of it being announced.

Fleury is 2-1-0 with the Baby Pens, 1.35 and .957.
