Didn't see this coming, did you? Tony Granato is the new coach of the Avs. It will be his second tour of duty. This will help their offense, in my books.
New Vancouver GM Mike Gillis (?) has fired two assistant coaches. Whether he fires Alain Vigneault now, or 10 games into the season, I think Vigneault is gone… it just may take a small slump.
Johan Franzen is doubtful for Game 1. I am wondering if he will be back at all this round.
Paul Holmgren has made it clear that he will match any offer given to Jeff Carter. I still doubt that. If a team gets insane enough, Carter will be gone. You just have to find the right number. The Memorial Cup semi-final will take place Friday between Kitchener and Belleville. The two teams played last night in a game that meant little to the standings (Belleville won in OT). After their seven-game series last round, Friday will be their ninth postseason contest and the teams are 4-4. The winner will play Spokane.
It is believed that Jaromir Jagr is seeking a two-year deal and it will probably get done prior to July 1. He will stay in New York.
Carolina is reportedly on the cusp of signing Tim Gleason, according to Luke Decock of the news/observer.
