Here's an interesting one: the revamped Lightning have signed Brandon Bochenski to a two-year deal. The deal is two-way for this year, but one-way for next year. A pure goalscorer, Bochenski is one of those guys that cannot be expected to play strong defense. He's other on the top line, or in the press box. Anything else is useless. I predict zero points this year for him. I also think with a couple of key injuries and a bit of luck, he could get 65 points. A very deep sleeper best left for the waiver wire.

Tampa Bay owner Len Barrie: "I'll predict right now Tampa Bay will win the division." He obviously hasn't seen the Capitals' roster. Or Carolina's for that matter.

The Lightning also signed career minor leaguer Andrew Hutchinson. Same situation as Bochenski, except he's a rearguard. Boom or bust who will spend time in the press box – but his contract is a one-way deal, so he'll be on the team.

The Sens have signed Jason Smith. Nice pickup.

The Habs have signed Jaroslav Halak to a two-year contract.

As expected, the Rangers signed Paul Mara. I can't believe he would stay there, given his role there.

Patrick Thoresen rejected Philadelphia's contract offer and will play this season in Europe. He wanted a one-way contract, but didn't get one so he will play in Europe until next season. At that point, he will be a free agent.

Columbus has signed Michael Peca to a contract – terms are unknown at this time.

Tampa Bay has signed Mark Recchi. He will add a veteran presense to the third line and may see some second PP time, but my hunch is that 20 games in he will start getting scratched and he may retire similar to Brett Hull in Phoenix a couple of years ago.

The Ducks made a smart move in signing David LeNeveu to a one-year deal. He gives them depth in the goaltending position, but won't see the NHL this year unless there is an injury.
