Defenseman Steve McCarthy has signed to play in the KHL.

DobberHockey's Jeff Angus is reporting the Canucks have signed AHL star Jason Krog to a one-way contract, meaning he'll finally get another chance in the NHL. He needs an extended, lengthy shot on the second line and if he gets one he bears watching.

Goodbye Jozef Stumpel. He has signed to play in the KHL (a Kazakhstani team – I believe for the team that will join the KHL, correct me if I"m wrong).

Goodbye Mike York. He has signed to play in the KHL.

Goodbye Sergei Brylin. He has…you get the picture.

The Sharks re-signed Marcel Goc for one year. Ryane Clowe is the only RFA still unsigned for San Jose.

The Ducks have added some depth on the back end by signing Steve Montador. They also signed career minor leaguer Brennan Evans.

The Caps signed Boyd Gordon to a one-year deal.

The Lightning re-signed Chris Gratton, completing their earlier stated goal of having a monster line: Gratton, with Tarnasky and Artyukhin.

The Habs have traded Corey Locke to the Wild for Shawn Belle. I like this one for Minnesota – a lot. However, Wild beatwriter Michael Russo is convinced that Locke was brought in to beef up scoring for Houston… a team that couldn't score in the AHL last year. He says that Benoit Pouliot is all but guaranteed a roster spot in the fall. I think that Locke could make this team and Pouliot could play on the left wing.

The Wild also signed Krys Kolanos to a one-year deal. It's two-way.

Russo also comments on how Brent Burns has been pumping iron and has beefed up already. That can have a good or bad impact on production – but it does have an impact.

Wild prospect Tyler Cuma has sprained his MCL and is out for the rest of development camp.

It looks like the NHL will go to bat for the Preds and that Medvedev, the Russian billionaire who is the force behind the KHL, will not allow a player to violate an NHL contract. This will probably go on into September.

Dallas has signed Jamie Benn to a three-year entry-level contract. He is ranked 97th on my fantasy prospects list.

The Sens have made a sharp signing in goaltender Mitch O'Keefe. The 24-year-old could be a late-bloomer. He was decent in college hockey and was steller during a cup of coffee in the AHL to end the season.
