The Buffalo Sabres re-signed goaltender Ryan Miller to a five-year, $31.25 million contract extension on Friday.
TSN is reporting that the IIHF has suspended Alexander Radulov, Jason Krog, Nikita Filatov, Fedor Fedorov and Viktor Tikhonov from all international play pending investigation. Some of these players will be allowed to play, and some will have contracts voided. My opinion is that Radulov, Filatov and Tikhonov will be playing in the NHL, while Fedorov and Krog will be forced to honor their Russian contracts. Just one man's guess really.
Radulov's Russian team opens their on-ice sessions today. It is expected that Rads will take part, but that has not been confirmed.
Mark Rycroft has signed to play on the Belarus team that is joining the KHL this season.
The Ottawa Citizen is reporting that Andrej Meszaros has an offer from the KHL and that he is using that as leverage for a $4 million contract.
Atlanta re-signed Brett Sterling to a multi-year contract. The terms were not disclosed, but pay attention to whether or not it is a one-way agreement when the terms leak to the media (as they always eventually do – I don't know why the clubs bother to not release the info right away).
The Pens traded Tim Brent to Chicago for Danny Richmond. Pittsburgh needed some depth on the back end and they have enough pivots, whereas Brent deserves an NHL shot. He won't get one in Chicago, though, as the Hawks already have Kris Versteeg, Petri Kontiola champing at the bit.
