Zach Bogosian is making a strong case in camp to crack the Atlanta roster. Look for him to at least get a nine-game trial to start the year with the big club.

Mike Keenan is looking to try Todd Bertuzzi on the left wing with Iginla and Langkow. That would move Cammalleri to the second line and it would remove Matt Lombardi from your dark horse list.

San Jose's new coach Todd McLellan plans to use defense more offensively – firing pucks at the net from the blue line on the power play a lot more than last year's "perimeter game", according to the Mercury News. It could be a big year for Danny Boyle.

Early Shark line combos: Marleau, Thornton Clowe; Michalek, Pavelski, Cheechoo. These six will juggle back and forth all year long.

Nikita Filatov will be cleared to skate on Friday. They are being very cautious with him. After Friday, he will have about a week to impress enough to stick.

Mike Peca will miss the start of training camp with bronchitis.

The Ducks signed Drew Miller to a two-way contract, which opens the door for him to play in the minors. A spot is not assured for him or for Joakim Lindstrom, which puts Ryan Carter squarely in the driver's seat in that battle.

Teemu Selanne indicated to the Orange County Register that he would like play two more seasons.

Keith Carney is in Chicago on a tryout.

Martin Havlat has still not been cleared for full contact. That clearance is expected in a week or two, as Havlat continues to come back from another shoulder surgery.

Chicago coach Denis Savard plans to rotate his two goaltenders until one of them gets hot, so expect six starts each (or so) in October.

The following cuts have been made:

Ottawa: Yablonski, Weller, Johnson, Hamel, Daugavins, Wright, Waugh, St. Croix, Smith, Kudelka, Ganzak, O'Keefe
Pittsburgh: Pierro-Zabotel, Veilleux, Grant, D'Aversa, Letestu, Johnson, Jeffrey, Caputi.

The Caputi, Veilleux and Jeffrey cuts were interesting. Veilleux was returned to junior, but Caputi and Jeffrey could be called back up later in camp.
