Dobber Sports

2008-11-25

Trivia answer – Phil Housley scored 10 in 15 games to start 1987-88. I would have also accepted Al Iafrate who did it in 19 games that same year (so technically he was the "last" person to do it).

Five Karma for the first correct answer in "NHL Rumors" section of the forum. Name the last defenseman to score his 10th goal sooner than Shea Weber doing the deed in his 20th game.

Brian Burke is the new president and GM of the Maple Leafs. I will have my take on the implications of this in Dobber's Take in the forum later today. (and the Steen/Stempniak trade will be up shortly)

With Richard Zednik on the shelf with an arm injury for several weeks, look for Shawn Matthias to get the call. This will also up the ice time for the likes of Rusty Olesz and Michal Frolik.

The Caps lost a pair of defensemen last night to injury, opening the door for Sami Lepisto or Karl Alzner to possibly get the call. Lepisto has 14 points in 20 AHL games and has high-end offensive potential from the blue line.

With Curtis Sanford playing a strong game last night and earning the win, he has the early lead in replacing Luongo while the superstar is hurt. This, despite Cory Schneider's absolutely stellar AHL numbers. Stellar.

With two last night, Sergei Samsonov has four points in four games. Has he finally unpacked his hockey bag and decided to play?

Harrison Reed, ranked 132 in my Prospects List, has just one point in 11 AHL games and the team has reassigned him to the ECHL. That is where a lot of prospects go and often can never turn their career back around.

My take on the Steve Ott injury (broken hand): Sean Avery will have better numbers. He'll see more ice time and the points will come. The PIM's are already there.

Antti Pihlstrom was the winner in the Preds "test". So far, anyway. The team recalled him and have left Jones and Hornqvist in the AHL for at least tomorrow's game.

Steve Sullivan is skating lightly and taking it very easy, and he is pleased that there is no pain and have been no setbacks. He will continue to take it slow. Encouraging news.

Nobody in the league has more goals than the 15 that Jeff Carter has right now.

I have a lot of exciting announcements coming down the pipeline over the next several weeks. The latest one is a new partnership with, in my opinion, the most popular, oldest and easy to use hockey pool manager out there: Officepools.com . They have joined the list of sites who publish my Sunday article and there is more to come with this arrangement in the future.

Still with the exciting news, later today will be Dobber Nation. An internet radio show hosted by Andrew Walker, this month's broadcast has guests Zach Boychuk (Carolina Hurricanes), Jon Press (Japer's Rink) and Justin Goldman (DobberHockey and the Hockey Guild). A MUST listen.
