Patrick Kane played last game with a high ankle sprain. Those sprains are generally pretty serious, yet he played with it… so I don't know what to think. He will not play today and you may see him miss a few games.

Columbus recalled Maxim Mayorov from Syracuse. He has 16 points in 33 NHL contests. Mayorov was actually cut from Team Russia at the juniors. It wouldn't be a Ken Hitchcock-coached debut if Mayorov played reasonable minutes – so of course he played just 3:38. Ken Hitchcock is bad for the growth of hockey in Columbus. Need more evidence? Voracek again played fewer than 12 minutes.

Alex Steen has 11 points in his last 14 games thanks to a three-point night last night.

Since returning from injury, TJ Oshie has points in all three games.

Jesse Winchester got back into the Ottawa lineup but played just five minutes.

How Antoine Vermette continues to get 17 minutes or more and still flops like this is beyond me. Every year I have a couple of really bad preseason calls and this year this guy is my worst one. I even took him in four of my leagues, putting my money where my mouth was. He is on pace for 18 points and a minus-32.

With Tyler Kennedy back in the lineup, the line combos in PIT looked like: Crosby with Sykora and Dupuis; Kennedy with Staal and Cooke; Malkin with Satan and Fedotenko

TB has recalled Ty Wishart from Norfolk. He will replace Andrej Meszaros in the lineup. Meszaros took a puck in face last night leading to 64 stitches. He is day to day.

Zach Bogosian was sent to Chicago (AHL) for conditioning.

Corey Perry has been suspended for four games for his elbow to the head of Claude Giroux. Giroux is day to day with a (unofficial – you know how it is) concussion.

Tim Connolly is expected back in the lineup this week from his rib injury. With the extra time, his back has likely healed even further, so I think he may actually stick around a few weeks before getting hurt again. I think he'll get in 40 games this season after all. That would mean that he plays 33 of the next 42-odd games left.

Alexander Semin slapping Marc Staal – hilarious!
