Vincent Lecavalier will undergo surgery on his wrist tomorrow and is out for the season. He played with this injury all year and one can imagine that that is the reason for a poor campaign. He is an excellent buy low candidate this summer.
Lars Eller, who is ranked 40th on my prospects list, has an injured shoulder and will undergo surgery. He should be okay for training camp, but I do not anticipate him making the team full time until 2010 anyway.
Ryan Smyth left last night's contest with a hand injury.
Joe Sakic is doubting that he can get back into the lineup before the season ends. I don't believe he will retire in the summer, but if you are considering him for next year, don't count on more than 50 points or you will get your heart broken – his body is wearing down and he is getting hurt much easier these days.
Kari Lehtonen will be out for at least another three games. Hedberg has won three straight contests and makes a good pickup for your late season surge.
The Sabres signed their 2005 seventh rounder, rearguard Matt Generous. He is a big, lanky d-man who could potentially be a No.4 type, with occasionaly second PP duty, but I wouldn't expect a whole lot of upside here.
Patrik Elias missed last night's game with a LBI. Last week he missed because of tightness in his leg muscle.
The Caps signed Stefan Della Rovere to an entry level deal. He is ranked 294 on my prospects list, but moves up with the news.
GM Scott Howson, telling the Dispatch why he recalled Filatov vs. leaving him in the AHL for a playoff push: “There would be positives to both situations for Nikita,” Howson said. “In Syracuse he’d be playing games, and very important games, too, with a lot at stake for the Crunch. The other side – and the reason we wanted him here – is he’ll be around the team. He’s a big part of our future, we expect him to make our club next season, and when we go through this again for what we hope is the next several years, it won’t be quite so new to him.” Hitchcock says that he does not have plans to dress him.
Mike Green became the eighth defenseman in NHL history to score 30 goals and the first in 15 years. What a great sign for the future of fantasy hockey – offense is on the way!
