Maybe because he heard that I just completed my update on my Guide, but Phoenix GM Don Maloney has assigned Kevin Porter to the AHL. Just to screw with us poolies I’m sure. Since he was the last cut, and Paul Bissonette really sucks, I have to think that Porter will be recalled soon.

Brendan Shanahan has stepped aside. According to NHL.com, he is unhappy on the fourth line (due to a strong camp from Bergfors) and he will discuss with his family what to do, but it is looking as though retirement is on the horizon.

Take what you want from this – I take nothing from it, because it’s line combos and I don’t care about them unless we’re talking about a Top 10 player – but RJ Umberger has been bumped out of the top six and onto a checking line. Filatov is playing with Vermette and Voracek.

Some final cuts – Chicago has cut Jack Skille. He really needs a new organization. The team is just too deep. Also cut – Jacob Dowell, Rob “awesome handle” Klinkhammer, Evan Brophey and Bryan Bickell.

Florida has cut Jeff Taffe and surprisingly they released Christian Backman. They really strung that guy along as they watched to see if Kulikov was ready. He was so they screwed Backman over. Had they told him two weeks ago that they were leaning towards Kulikov, I am sure he would have been trying find another camp.

Cody Franson has been cut. That means Teemu Laakso, against the odds, is in. He topped Blum, Franson and “the lock” Sulzer.

The Rangers have indeed signed Alexei Semenov.

Here’s a slap in the face – the Coyotes have reassigned Nick Ross to the ECHL. He needs to break out of this downward spiral before it’s too late.
