Dobber Sports

2009-10-26

Dobber Nation – postponed until Thursday. I could post the interviews piecewise, but would rather have it put all together in one nice show. It was the perfect storm of technical difficulties (Andrew’s computer crashed), sickness (producer is sick) and timing (I’m moving). By the time it all comes back together it will be Thursday. But it will be a doozy – I’m on the show, as well as Portzline (Dispatch) and Caps rearguard Shaone Morrisonn discusses Mike Green, John Carlson and more; plus, our monthly keeper league feature.

The Hurricanes have placed Stephane Yelle on waivers. They may be looking to shake things up and if it’s the center position they fill, then perhaps we will see Zach Boychuk. Both Boychuk and Drayson Bowman (a winger) have eight points in nine AHL contests.

Paul Martin has a broken arm and is done for the next 4-6 weeks. Look for Cory Murphy to get a real chance now. Wow, suddenly one of my keeper league teams are in big trouble (Martin, Kovalchuk…whoops). That kind of erases owning Kopitar, Smyth and Williams doesn’t it?

Alex Ovechkin needs four points in his next two games just to keep up with Anze Kopitar. What an incredible start for the Slovenian.

The Top 12 in plus/minus:
Grossman plus-12
O’Reilly plus-10
Goligoski, Smid, Tallinder plus-9
Drewiske, Glencross, Hannan, Hejda, Myers, Ovechkin, Penner plus-8

Gilbert Brule missed three games with the flu. It was a six day flu – never heard of that. Anyway, it may have stopped his momentum. He was held pointless last night.

I see that former NHLers Jaroslav Hlinka (not really an NHLer, ok) and Jan Hlavac signed to play in Sweden.

Sergei Shirokov played about 13 minutes last night, a lot of it with Henrik Sedin. I dressed him (four games) over Claude Giroux (two games) this week. Just a hunch.

Kovalchuk will have a CT scan on his foot. He took a shot off of it and the pain is towards the top of his foot where this is less protection. More info will be released today, but be prepared for it to be broken and several weeks on the shelf. Look for Jason Krog or Spencer Machacek to get the call. Brett Sterling had a four-point game on Saturday for the Wolves, so he may also get consideration.

Ramblings will be late today, and sporadic all week as I go through a move. They will still be there, just a bit here and a bit there throughout each day.

Nikita Filatov fell nine seconds short of 10 minutes last night. He was held pointless. Meanwhile, Antoine Vermette upped his points streak to five and he has 10 in 10 games (this was the only note I jotted down before I was called away to the other house for stuff)

Dobber Nation will be up later this evening

Lots of great stuff in yesterday’s ramblings, if you missed it you can find it here. Included – footage of the Richards hit on Booth, as well as the aftermath. Heavy discussion on that one.
