Nick Palmieri had an assist in his NHL debut last night with the Devils. He skated with Parise and Zajac at times, as the Devils will have to make due without Patrik Elias for the forseeable future. He doesn’t have much offensive upside but could be worth a look if he can stick with the big guns for a few weeks.

Alex Steen has 17 points in 16 games. I have caught the Blues a few times and he looks like a much improved player offensively. He has always been a great skater, but his insticts were often lacking. He’s played great lately and may be finally developing into a solid offensive producer.

Johnny Oduya’s return hasn’t affected Andy Greene all that much, as Greene saw over 24 minutes of ice time.

Paul Kariya has three points in his last two games. Hey its a start…

With Willie Mitchell out, O’Brien, Ehrhoff, Edler, and Salo all saw heavy minutes.

Devan Dubnyk is still looking for his first NHL win. He was great last night but the Oilers were unable to hold on to a 2-1 lead. Dubnyk had a particularly nice save on Ryan Kesler in the second period on a cross-ice feed.

It may get lost in the box scores, but over the past three or four games Mason Raymond has simply been dominant with the puck for Vancouver. Kesler has slowed down a bit (I think he is playing with a slight injury), but Raymond has been all over the ice. Even knocked Ladislav Smid down with a big hit last night.

Benoit Pouliot continues his great play with the Habs. He had two more goals last night, and now has more goals with Montreal then he had in his ENTIRE career with Minnesota. Talk about a win-win.

I thought Carey Price looked pretty good, even though he gave up four goals. Defensive play of his teammates left much to be desired.

Scott Gomez in particular was atrocious. Pierre was on him all game as well. I can’t see any team EVER taking that albatross of a contract on (although I probably said the exact same thing last year when he was still with the Rangers).

Henrik Sedin had three assists, opening up his lead in the scoring race to five over Ovechkin.

Tomas Vokoun had another spectacular game, stopping 31 of 32 shots against the Devils. He is a notorious second half goalie (and in a contract year to boot). **My mistake, Vokoun has another year left on his current deal.

Remember, the message boards we have here are a community. Although the site continues to grow at a great rate, many of the regular users are still visible on the boards every day. They are a great resource for advice and help, but many newer users are just as knowledgeable and helpful. Rule of thumb I strive for: for every topic I create asking for help, I offer my advice and help to five others. If you are browsing the boards and see a topic with zero or one reply, check it out. Maybe the guy who started that one has some great advice for you! Additionally, maybe you will one day face a similar situation. Success in fantasy hockey depends a lot on learning from mistakes and successes along the way.

Memo to Chris Osgood: shut up and play. Osgood comes off as whiny in this interview from two days ago, as he takes a shot at Mike Babcock over his handling of the goalies. Sure, you have your rings, but Howard has easily outplayed you. Check out the interview here.

Surprising stat from Tuesday night – it was the first time ever that both Crosby and Malkin recorded multi-goal games. You would have figured that they would have done this a few times by now.

Andy Sutton got a massive two game suspension for attempting his own version of plastic surgery on the face of Pascal Dupuis. I'll stay away from this suspension stuff as we are here to talk fantasy hockey, but once again the NHL proves how spineless they are with dangerous/malicious hits that have no part of hockey.

Brent Burns, once a fantasy stud, is back practicing with the Wild. He has been battling concussion-related issues for close to a year now. I am unsure of how this will impact him on the ice, but at one point the had 20 goal, 60 point upside from the back end.

Mike Peca announced his retirement a few days ago. He was never much of a fantasy stud, but was one of my favourite players growing up. Peca also is famous for delivering what I think is the biggest hit in hockey history. He broke his own jaw on the play! Check out the video at the end of the ramblings.

Milan Michalek is playing tonight for the Sens after missing the past few contests with a concussion.

It is going to be interesting to see what kind of impact the Olympics will have on both players participating and those who get  bit of a break from game action. On the surface, you would have to assume those getting the rest stand to benefit the most down the stretch. However, don't underestimate the impact that a strong Olympics can have with regards to the confidence of a player. Say the US and Ryan Miller stun the world to capture the gold medal – how will that impact Miller? What about the underrated and unassuming American defensive core? I have an in depth article on this very subject in the Midseason Guide. Just another reason to pick it up!

And to stray away from fantasy hockey one more time – what has happened to Robyn Regehr. At this point last season, he was regarded as a solid bet to make Team Canada. He was a physically dominant defensive presence every game. Now, he can barely keep up with the play. His offensive game was never that good, but it has completely dried up. In particular, I am surprised because Regehr and Mike Keenan never saw eye to eye. I figured if anyone, Regehr would be the player to excel under the defensive, aggressive system that Brent Sutter was hoping to implement.

Patrice Cormier's fate will be decided Monday. I'd ban him for life from the Q to be honest. He has built a bit of a reputation up lately with elbows, and the latest is one of the most vicious I have ever seen.

Although he was pointless on Tuesday night, Daniel Alfredsson still has six points in three games since returning from injury.
