Jack Hillen is going to be out for 6-8 weeks with a fractured jaw. No kidding.

Tomas Plekanec had a great goal last night, but I can’t find a video of it. Link would be appreciated! He batted the puck to himself out of mid-air, and then batted it in to the net. Incredible display of hand-eye coordination.

Niclas Bergfors, once a player in the Calder Trophy race, has gone pointless over his past 10 games.

Speaking of cold, Ryan Whitney is pointless and minus-12 in his last 15 games. There are rumors that he may be on the US Olympic Team if Paul Martin is unable to go. I’m not really sure why, especially with the likes of Zach Bogosian and Tim Gleason still out there.

Petr Sykora’s contract is in the process of being terminated (sounds ominous, doesn’t it?). Sykora will become a UFA. There may be a few teams interested in bringing him on for the stretch drive, and he could make for a decent filler in deep one year leagues.

Some rumblings that Philadelphia may have interest in Kovalchuk. They would be a good fit for Atlanta as a trading partner because they have lots of veterans that would be available – the Thrashers want help now more than in the future. Maybe a deal involving the likes of Carter, Gagne, and/or Hartnell?

Most of Philly’s top end forwards have NTC’s, and they are already fairly top heavy up front (and on defense). Doesn’t make much sense to me. Kovalchuk is going to either Chicago, Los Angeles, or Calgary.

Ken Campbell of the Hockey News is reporting that the Kings have had extensive discussions with Atlanta regarding Ilya Kovalchuk, and that the Thrashers have given the Kings a list of names of players/prospects they are interested in. Interesting…

Since Daniel Sedin has returned to the lineup, Henrik is producing at a 142 point pace over 82 games. He has 76 points with 30 games to go. The bulk of the voters in the poll are voting for between 90 and 109 points. For Henrik to get 109 points, he needs 33 points in 30 games, which would be a dramatic decrease in production.

The 14 game road trip “should” slow down his production, but the Canucks also play a number of games against the Eastern Conference, where the Sedins absolutely feast. Henrik is currently on pace for 37 goals, 82 assists, and 119 points. Logic says he won’t hit that number, so I can see why so many people are predictiing a decline. However, even if he declines his production a bit, 105-115 points is pretty attainable for him.

Damien Cox, who I usually do my best to ignore, brought up a great point yesterday (well half of his point was great). The post-Kessel Bruins are the lowest scoring team in the entire league, so why is everyone thinking it is a good trade for them?

Well, Damien, the Bruins are going to get at least one and probably two fantastic draft picks. The Kessel trade on its own was a fantastic move for the Bruins – not addressing the goals they would lose with Kessel was not. Sturm has been inconsistent, Lucic has been hurt, Wheeler is still young, and Ryder is too spotty with his effort to be counted on every night.

Edmonton stats: they have allowed three or more goals in each of the last 10 games. Andrew Cogliano has two goals in his last 33 games.  Finally, the Oilers have not scored a four-on-four goal ALL SEASON. Wow.

Dave Bolland skated yesterday with the team in Edmonton, and is inching closer to a return. He played the point on the power play quite a bit last year, so even if his ice time is limted to begin with, expect him to see some time with the man advantage.

Islanders prospect Calvin de Haan will be out for six months after injuring his shoulder a few days ago. The injury severely hurts his chances of making the big club next year – expect him to play another year in the OHL. The Isles have been getting solid defense from a few under-the-radar guys, Jack Hillen and Andrew MacDonald.

Speaking of Hillen, he got hit right in the mouth with an Ovechkin shot last night and left the ice a bloody mess. He skated off under his own power, but will probably miss a bit of time.

Sami Salo, who was producing at a solid clip before getting hurt, is going to travel with the team to begin their eight game trip and is probably for Saturday’s game in Toronto. Willie Mitchell is still out with a concussion and a stiff back.

Calgary has recalled Mikael Backlund from Abbotsford of the AHL. The Flames are desperate for offense, so expect Backlund to be given a shot with Iginla right off the bat. Jokinen and Langkow have been colossal dissapointments this season (especially Jokinen who is going to be in for a rude awakening this summer with the contracts offered to him), and Conroy is completely done as an offensive player.

The Habs only mustered 17 shots on Tomas Vokoun in an absolute snoozer last night. Jaroslav Halak played well in the loss ( his third straight start), stopping 25 of 27 shots.

Brian Elliott shut out the Devils last night, and continues his hot streak. The win was his fifth in a row, and he has allowed more than one goal only once over that span.

Alex Kovalev recorded a point for the eighth straight game. Not so surprisingly, his production increase seems to be correlated with the Senators overall success as a team.

Ilya Kovalchuk has nine points in his last 10 contests, which isn’t too shabby, but that includes one two-point game and two three-point games. He is pointless in six of the 10 games.

Dustin Brown had three assists last night in what was probably his best game of the season. The Kings need more offense from their captain. After scoring 33 goals in 2007-08, he had 24 last year and is on pace for less than 20 this year.

Nik Hagman had a great game for the Leafs, scoring twice in the loss. He has decent trade value as a two-way second line winger. Hagman’s production is erratic but his effort isn’t.

The Caps scored seven last night, and Ovechkin (10 shots on goal) was pointless! Nick Backstrom only had one helper. Fantasy hockey is a funny (frustrating if you are an Ovechkin owner) thing at times.

John Tavares had an assist last night, only his fifth point over his last 10 games. He appears to have hit the proverbial wall. Maybe he would benefit from a night or two off?

Dwayne Roloson got lit up last night (costing my H2H team the goalie categories for the week, most likely). Even with the loss, however, he is still 7-3 in his last 10 games.

The ‘Yotes scored twice in the final two minutes and again in overtime to beat Detroit 5-4. Shane Doan had four points, and needs to continue producing if he wants to get back on pace for his usual 70 points.

It took Nick Lidstrom over 40 games to get his first two goals of the season. He equalled that total in about four minutes last night. He is so good at opening up shooting lanes (he and Gonchar are the best in the league a this), so his lack of goals is/was incredibly surprising, even if he has lost a step or two.
