Angus here – it’s time for another fantasy hockey mailbag.

Dekanich insight to support Dobber’s rambling below coming soon. Weiman’s a total steal for the Canucks. Not only did they find a perfect workhorse for Manitoba, they signed him for cheap from a Division rival. Terrible management by the Avs to let him walk for zero return, great job by Canucks to patch a big hole in their depth chart. Finally, my frustrations with Weiman in Colorado have come to a satisfying end. More of my thoughts in the forums!

Kirill Petrov, arguably the top Islander in their development camp, did not skate today because of shoulder soreness. That’s the big caution with him – fragility. He’s a BABITM (Band-Aid Boy-in- the-making). He had some injury troubles over the years in Russia, as well.

I insist on this. I am here to further your fantasy knowledge, so I insist that you look at this link. Pictures of the LA Kings Ice Crew Auditions. That will help your fantasy knowledge, trust me.

It’s starting to look as though Mark Dekanich will be the backup in Nashville this year. The Tennessean speculates that Chet Pickard is still too inexperienced and that the Preds may not sign a backup goaltender. Why should this interest you? Because of Nashville’s coaching system. The last two “no-name” backups who were brought in were named Dan Ellis and Chris Mason. Both became quite fantasy relevant at various times. I apologize for not having a profile on him in the Prospects Report. My goal is to nail all the fantasy relevant prospects and I take it personally when one gets by me. It makes me strive to be better!

Speaking of Fantasy Prospects, I’ll have the list up later today. I played host yesterday to a few buddies from high school (and their families) and had a blast.

As Angus mentioned Friday, the Rangers swapped Aaron Voros and Ryan Hillier for Steve Eminger in a deal with the Ducks. The Rangers will be in for a surprise when they discover what Anaheim, Florida, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and Washington discovered – that he sucks. Anaheim will find the same thing with Voros, but at least they could salvage Hillier, and they shave $125000 off the payroll. And Voros is a pretty good agitator in spurts.

From Angus…

Oliver Ekman-Larsson has been having a fantastic rookie camp for the Coyotes.

Phoenix GM Don Maloney: “We have the luxury of letting players develop. I say that, but you look at Oliver Ekman-Larsson out here at 19, the way he skates and moves the puck, he may be our best power play guy next season.”

The Canucks have signed Tyler Weiman to a one-year, two-way contract. Weiman will split time with Swedish prospect Eddie Lack down on the farm. He is also a favourite of Justin Goldman’s, who will probably weigh in with his two cents on the signing at some point today.

If the Canucks decide to move Cory Schneider at the trade deadline, Weiman could be line to back up Luongo down the stretch.
