According to Chris Botta, Mark Streit left the arena with his left arm in a sling today. Not good news for anyone who owns any Islander players.
Cody Hodgson will play in Edmonton tomorrow. He’ll center Sergei Shirokov and Billy Sweatt.
Jeff Tambellini is playing with the Sedin twins on Vancouver’s top line tonight. If he plays well, he’ll take a step above Schroeder and Shirokov in the battle for a spot in Vancouver’s top nine.
Tomas Kubalik had a hat trick for Columbus last night. Kubalik is a big winger who is known for his ability to protect the puck. He had 75 points in 58 games in the QMJHL last season. I don’t know a ton about him, but he has just made his way onto my radar.
Wade Redden has officially been placed on waivers. Enjoy Hartford, Wade.
Imagine having a job where a $39 million mistake wouldn’t just be forgiven, it would be completely swept under the rug?
Logan Couture has a shot at contending for the Calder Trophy. He’ll center the third line at even strength, but he should be a regular on San Jose’s second power play unit.
Michael Leighton left last night’s game with a slight injury. Update coming.
Will John Carlson steal some power play time from Mike Green this season? Both shoot right and play similar styles. The Caps would often keep Green out for the entire two minutes of the power play, and they may not need to do that any more with Carlson around.
Cody Hodgson is NOT playing tonight against the Ducks. There are unconfirmed reports that he will suit up on Sunday in Edmonton.
Marek Svatos is off to the KHL. I thought he could have stuck somewhere on a scoring line in the NHL, but he obviously wanted the guarantee of a contract compared to the risk that comes with trying out on a training camp invitation.
Giroux and Zherdev looked good together last night for the Flyers. Zherdev scored twice and Giroux made a number of good plays with the puck. Philadelphia has a lot of options with how they spread out their offense.
Voracek will skate with Rick Nash tonight. They probably won't play together at even strength (Huselius is a better bet to play with Nash), but it will be interesting to see if they can find chemistry. A classic playmaker (Voracek) scorer (Nash) combo.
Josh Harding tore a ligament in his knee last night. I'll update this when I can. I was close to trading for Harding this summer (I had a hunch the Wild were going to move him). Good thing I didn't pull the trigger.
Claude Giroux’s insane goal from last night:
