Washington has named Neuvirth as starting goalie for their opening night contest. I’m not surprised. He’s going to be a better goalie than Varlamov both this season and long-term. Unflappable between the pipes.

Vancouver has waived Darcy Hordichuk and Shane O’Brien.

Brian Campbell was injured in last night’s game. He was seen leaving the arena with a noticable limp. I’ll keep tabs on this one.

David Moss and Ales Kotalik both left the game last night with injuries. Calgary’s forwards are dropping like flies.

After getting shelled for eight goals against the Oilers last weekend, Cory Schneider has had two straight solid games for the Canucks.

Sheldon Souray unsurprisingly cleared waivers. I am holding on to him in one of my leagues – no point in dumping him right now. The Oilers will need to take a bad salary back. I think the Mike Commodore speculation from a few weeks ago still makes sense for both sides.

Ryan Kesler owners take note – he will start the season on the top PP unit with Daniel, Henrik, Edler, and Ehrhoff. He had two points last night against the Ducks. His PK duties will probably lessen a bit with Malhotra around to take the important draws as well.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson will be on Phoenix's opening night roster.

Sticking with the Coyotes, they have cut Kyle Wellwood. He had a pretty good preseason, but Kyle Turris beat him out for a roster spot. The sky is the limit for Turris.

Phoenix's center situation is very hard to read. Wolski is moving back after playing wing throughout his NHL career. Belanger is a decent second line center but fits in better in more of a depth role. Martin Hanzal is becoming an elite defensive forward but he doesn't have the offense to be a top line center. If Turris starts off on the right foot, he could see lots of time on the top unit.

Playing on Phoenix's top unit doesn't have the same fantasy significance as playing on the top line for another team would. The Coyotes are relatively deep up front and they tend to spread out the scoring a bit among two or three lines.

I took Malkin 3^rd overall in a points-only one-year league last night (16 teams). Wanted a goalie but couldn't pass up on him. Ended up with Lundqvist and Bryzgalov in goal. For goalies we count wins and shutouts only, so having goalies who play a lot is very important.

Chicago has recalled Brandon Pirri. I don't know a ton about him but I have heard some very good things. Any insights and realistic expectations for both the short and long term?

Minnesota has signed Jose Theodore to back up Backstrom. Obviously they aren’t confident in Khudobin just yet.

Eric Fehr had two goals and an assist last night. He’ll score 30 if he sees some more ice time. He scored over 20 last year playing about 12 minutes per game. Big, smart positionally, and he has a deadly shot.
