The Fantasy Guide and Draft List were both updated as of last night – including Grabner’s impact in Long Island, Fedotenko’s impact on Tim Kennedy, Shane O’Brien’s improved PIM projection in Nashville, who the hell is Tim Brent, Mark Olver, Jonas Holos? – and so much more. Try and find me another fantasy guide with all THAT! Buy it here.

Breaking news: The Penguins have sent winger Eric Tangradi to Wheeling of the ECHL. Update on this – the Pens also recalled a goaltender from Wheeling, so this looks like an injury between the pipes, and just a question of keeping Tangradi close by for a recall if both goalies turn out to be okay.

Goldie Says: October Scouting Journal is published. Includes 60 NHL goalie previews with solid fantasy advice. Enjoy! Also, Nathan Lawson went on LTIR for the Isles. That means Mikko Koskinen is the #1 in Bridgeport. And what happens if DiPietro gets injured? Exactly. Keep an eye out!

The Oilers have assigned Sheldon Souray to the Hershey Bears of the AHL. After the other GMs see him in a few games, they should have interest in him on recall waivers for half the price.

Chris Botta is reporting that Michael Grabner will probably sit the first two games, as he learns the team system.

Calvin de Haan is the final cut by the Islanders. Close one!

Vancouver trades Hordichuk to Florida for Andrew Peters. The latter has a two-way deal so the ‘Nucks shed more salary. So in the last week the Panthers have managed to turn Grabner into, um, Hordichuk…

The Oilers have named Shawn Horcoff their team captain. Just a little more faith in the player who I feel will have a nice rebound campaign.

Tim Kennedy – and everyone else – has cleared waivers. How teams can let Kennedy go by when he’s making almost the minimum is beyond me. He could have signed for more than that and stayed in Buffalo. He must share agents with Anson Carter.

In hindsight, yesterday was probably busier for me than Trade Deadline day. I was so proud to have completed my updates by 7pm, but when I saved the document – Word crashed. Then I stupidly saved the repaired version overtop of the saved version, thus losing my work for the day. Thankfully, I had my notes summarized in Notepad and my projections analyzed in Excel, so redoing just the MS Word stuff only took 90 minutes. But it was still a pain in the ass. Then I get that uploaded… and DobberHockey crashes. Must be the record traffic! As I said yesterday, the month of September topped 5 million hits. Anyway, the site was back up in 10 minutes… but then I had to jump on AM 1260 in Edmonton to join Flaming and Millard on the Pipeline Show. I finally got time to myself at eleven o’clock, and rather than get a jump on the ramblings, I chose my bed. So that’s why we’re late this morning…whew! Hockey’s back!

As I hinted at yesterday – Jason Arbuthnot has built something new into his Frozen Pool section and I have to tell you – the Internet may possibly explode from all the awesomeness. You are already excited about all the “quick reports” and “line combos” and “line production” that is right there at your fingertips. What more could want? Trust me – you want this. When you see this new feature, you will have change your underwear. So bring an extra pair to the office tomorrow. I’m serious – throw an extra pair into your bag when you get home tonight. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Tomorrow. Frozen Pool.

If you want a great sleeper pick for the end of your draft – take Cal O’Reilly. The way things work in the NHL, I would stronger odds on his being a ‘bust’, but that being said – he has underrated smarts and vision, and the Preds have him playing with Hornqvist and Sullivan. On most teams, that would put his upside at 75 points. But on the Preds that could mean 55. Again, a long shot – but a pretty good one, and perfect for that final round.

So how did the weaselly Devils slip under the cap? Easy. And every year when they are in trouble we need to remember that Weaselly Lou will never be forced into a trade. Here’s how:

1. Fluke a couple of injuries, slap a “long term” sticker on them, and get them off the cap (i.e. Salvador’s concussion and Salmela’s ACL)
2. Waive an NHL player with a skillset that is a dime a dozen and send him to the minors. Make sure his cap hit is a sizable one, relatively speaking (Zubrus)
3. Keep roster at 20 players, instead of 23. Why pay for more bodies in the press box?
4. Pray that no other injuries happen, or if they do they can get a “long term” sticker on them.

So Nik Zherdev prefers that his name be spelled “Nikolay”. Okai.

A small move that I missed yesterday – the Canucks waived Joel Perreault.

That’s it for me this morning. If today is anything like yesterday, then between the hours of 11am ET and 4pm ET I will have added the equivalent of a small novel to these ramblings above. So I’ll save my energy for the big crush of news that is bound to come.
