Michael Russo reports that Guillaume Latendresse has a groin injury that will cause him to miss at least the next game, likely several.

Colby Armstrong apparently has an injury to one of his hands. Luca Caputi has been called up, but is stuck on the third line so any production is unlikely.

Radim Vrbata’s ice time was down to 9:46 last night. That’s getting into Andrew Ebbett territory…

Should the Coyotes be giving Shane Doan top PP time? Or is he a second liner now? Should he have received the 6:29 of PP time last night, or should he have switched with Turris, who saw 3:05? He’s 34 now, which is not over the hill, but some players falter younger than others (I remember Trevor Linden and Kirk Muller started to stumble in their late 20s).

Luke Adam played 13:29 in his NHL debut for the Sabres. He didn’t see any PP time, but he did have two shots and two PIM.

Tom Gilbert played 29 minutes and scored  goal. That’s an encouraging sign. Gilbert typically turns it up in the second half, so fantasy owners are hoping he can get that started a little earlier this time around.

Edmonton seems to be getting all they can out of Khabibulin before they lose him to the big house, or to injury again. They’re not giving him a break at all…meanwhile, they’re carrying more goaltenders on their roster than any other team!

Milan Hejduk has eight points in his last four games, yet is a minus-1 in that span. I had given up on the guy after Game 5, but apparently there’s still gas in the tank. Proving, once again, that I’m right just 52% of the time.

Jeff Tambellini has two points in two games since getting plunked on the big line with the twins. He’s also seeing about 15 minutes per game.

Both Marc Savard and Marco Sturm skated yesterday. Barring a setback, I have to think that both will be back in the lineup within three weeks. In Savard’s case, it may be four. But we’re closing in on their return so if they’re available in  your league, perhaps grabbing them and stashing them on your IR is the right move.

Ondrej Pavelec will rehab in the AHL for a few days, but will “definitely” start for the Thrashers Saturday, according to Chris Vivlamore.

Dan Sexton will need surgery on his broken nose and he will be sidelined for two weeks.

I had no idea that Carolina hadn’t played their home opener yet. They’ll play it tonight, almost in November.

With Tom Poti out with a LBI, the Caps recalled Brian Fahey. Poti will probably be shelved for at least a week, but the team hasn’t been specific about the injury.

The Lightning placed Simon Gagne on injured reserve and recalled Blair Jones. The Gagne injury is starting to look serious, in my books. He’s eligible to come off on Friday, but I doubt that he will.

Ryan Suter’s LBI will keep him out for at least another week. And Matt Lombardi is now listed as (week to week). Uh oh…

The Tennessean also reports that JP Dumont and his wife had a baby girl yesterday. Inspiration or distraction? I’ll go with inspiration – it’s his fourth daughter.

Buffalo needs to get bigger. I know we say this every year, but often they get away with it and prove us wrong. But this year…they really do. If they hope to see Derek Roy get back up to 80 points, and Tyler Ennis to emerge as a star, and Nathan Gerbe to start contributing…they need to add another couple of talented bigger men. Create some room. It would make all the difference. Defensively, as well.

Craig Anderson suffered a knee injury that looked pretty serious. He is out indefinitely – scoop up Budaj! Hopefully Goldman will jump on here later today and tell us who to grab as Budaj’s backup, in case Budaj falters.

Jordan Staal, according to the Gazette, looks ready to go. But he’s not. The team is still not announcing a date for his return, even though he looks fine in practice. It sounds like had this been the postseason, he would play today.

John-Michael Liles now holds the NHL record for most consecutive games with an assist by a defenseman to start the year.
