Goldie says: Pavelec wasn’t overly tested vs MIN last night, but it was a huge win and I feel good about his value springing forward. Massive win for Rinne in a SO, so IMO he’s back on track. Quick is blowing me away and watch for Ward falling back from energy drain.

Once again, Dwayne Roloson has fantastic numbers for the Isles. I benched him last night (something about being on the road in San Jose worried me a bit). He stopped 37 of 38 shots in the shootout loss.

Josh Bailey has gone nine games without a point.

Is there a player in the league who is quietly off to a better start than the 9-1 Jonathan Quick?

Jack Johnson has nine points in LA's last eight games.

Drew Doughty was crushed from behind by Adam Burish (game misconduct) but he appeared to be fine afterwards. He has been a fantasy flop so far with only one assist in seven games.

Rumors out of Philadelphia – Jeff Carter is getting close to signing a massive contract extension (I have read 10 years in a few places).

Get your votes in – duballstar or the combination of praba/gmgates? Who to you want to read on a daily basis over on the forums?

I am in a points-only league with a few friends of mine, and we are given three moves all season, so it is essential to both draft wisely (no injury-prone players) and make shrewd pickups.

I had been sitting on a few players for about two weeks now – Cal O'Reilly and Peter Regin. I bit the bullet yesterday and dropped Derek Stepan for Regin (who looks great alongside Spezza and Kovalev).

I tried my best to use the logic I talked about last week – ignore current production, assume all available players are sitting with zero points.

Alex Semin has the best shot in hockey.

Sticking with Semin (pun intended) – he is that one guy who I always "intend" to draft but never end up getting. Is there an elite player out there that fills the same role for you? He is dynamic when healthy, and the injury issues are overblown.

Additionally, he gets underrated in fantasy hockey because of how bad he is in the playoffs. Unless your league counts playoff stats, who cares!

Vincent Lecavalier will miss up to a month with a fractured hand. Dominic Moore stands to benefit in the short term.

Jeff Carter had three goals for the Flyers last night. He has been on fire since I called him out a few weeks ago. So much size and talent, he needs to be more assertive on a nightly basis. It will be interesting to see if he re-signs with the Flyers before the season ends.

Sidney Crosby tests out a new stick in this cool video – I'd love to see Chara give it a whirl.

Alex Burrows scored for the Canucks last night. His legs have been there but the hands were slow to come around. The top line combined for six points.

The Canucks are still taking it slow with Burrows (13:33 of ice time).

Ryan Kesler scored twice and was 17-3 on the draw. Quite the game – he was dominant at both ends of the ice.

Pascal Leclaire didn't play as bad as one would think considering he let in six goals. Ottawa had about 15 brutal turnovers in their own zone and they didn't do a great job of clearing rebounds.

However, six goals against is still six goals against. Not exactly the best way to earn another start after not playing for almost a month.

Regin was Ottawa's best forward – he was aggressive and crashing the net all night. Now that he is getting ice time and offensive minutes, I'd expect him to get back on track.

The Oilers are simply not a very good hockey team. Too many inexperienced forwards combined with a porous defensive core is not a good recipe.

Taylor Hall is minus-7 in Edmonton's last 10.

Tom Gilbert has a goal and zero assists in his past 10 – major buy-low candidate. When he gets hot, the points flood in.

Dan Cleary is on fire – a six game point streak (nine points during that span). His ice time hasn't gone up – making the most of his opportunities.

Jiri Hudler had an assist last night, but he has played less than 10 minutes in a game three times in Detroit's past 10. He needs ice time/line mates/confidence from the coach to produce, and right now he is getting none of those.

Pavelec got his first win of the season last night. He played a good game against a bad team (Minnesota).

The Byfuglien-Enstrom power play duo is filthy this season – they had four points between them last night.

Little missed his sixth straight but it sounds like he will play this weekend for Atlanta.

Andrew Ladd is making the most of his increased responsibility coming from Chicago to the Thrashers. He is on pace for close to 80 points, and is playing tough, physical hockey at both ends of the ice. There are rumours he is being touted as the next team captain.

Stamkos will finish the season with 100 goals if he keeps this level of play up.

Ovechkin/Semin/Backstrom combined for 12 points last night.

Neuvirth was great for the Caps – 38 stops on 41 shots.

Backstrom has 14 points in eight games – after a slow start, he is rounding into form. I'd look for similar production to last season. Maybe not 30+ goals, though…

Lundqvist was supposed to play last night, but he was a late scratch due to the flu. Biron got the W for the Rangers in his absence. I'd expect Lundqvist to be near the top of the league in terms of GP at the end of the season (whether or not that is a good thing is up for debate).

New York's defensive pairing of Del Zotto and Eminger is scary bad.

Enroth's level of play has improved with each start – he has started four of Buffalo's past five. No update on Ryan Miller's lower body injury yet.

Derek Boogaard scored his first goal in close to 240 NHL games last game. His reward – a healthy scratch last night!

Frolov is on pace for 11 goals this season.

Gaborik played last night after missing a number of games with a shoulder injury. He was pointless but played close to 20 minutes.

Stepan is pointless in 11 games.

Rask is still chasing his first win of the season. He was far from the reason that Boston lost last night (three goals allowed on 41 shots).

Sergei Bobrovsky has won seven out of his past eight starts. His lowest save percentage in a game over that span – .914. I don't know a lot about this kid but he is obviously giving the Flyers the kind of goaltending they need to play their system.

Nik Zherdev has four goals in six games for the Flyers. I guess those healthy scratches woke him up a bit…

A few nice passes from the Sedin twins opens up Burrows for his first of the season:
