There we go – the Caps have finally recalled Mathieu Perreault. Hopefully he sticks around for awhile, but look for continued progress (maybe three points in six games – to me that is nice progress).

Billy Guerin has officially retired. A solid fantasy player who extended his worth by signing for that final year in Pittsburgh.

Anton Babchuk got his first point – a goal – as a Flame. He was moved to the left point on the PP, which by many accounts worked wonders for the Calgary PP.

Henrik Karlsson, a promsing backup goaltender for Calgary, as had two straight strong outings – both going to overtime (three goals allowed, 43 shots), and with Calgary sinking fast look for him to get more opportunities this week.

The Ducks have been shut out in back to back games at home.

The word out of St. Louis is that Andy McDonald has suffered a concussion. The team is delaying /hiding /denying any announcement about it, but let’s call a spade a spade. With his concussion history, this could be very serious. This puts further onus on the likes of Steen, Backes, Berglund and Boyes to produce. I added the clip of injury below. Steen is already heating up with five points in his last two games.

Patrick Kane left last night’s game early after falling along the boards. He needed help getting off the ice and he will miss some time.

Brouwer, Skille and Kopecky saw a couple of minutes of added ice time as a result of Kane’s injury, which happened early.

Martin Brodeur is getting closer to a return, as he practiced with the team Sunday. He is targeting Friday’s game, according to Rich Chere

With Langenbrunner and Zajac seeming to click with Kovalchuk, both Alexander Vasyunov and Mattias Tedenby find themselves on a depth line or in the press box.

Columbus beatwriter Aaron Portzline opines that Kristian Huselius will be out until Christmas, or even later. His high ankle sprain is healing slowly.

Andy McDonald is “day to day” with an “upper body injury”. He caught a rut in the ice (so he could have injured his knee or ankle) and then fell, hitting his head on Shawn Horcoff’s knee (implying a concussion), before crumpling to the ice (making the shoulder a possibility. Who knows? They say UBI, but it could just as easily be an LBI.

According to Flyers beatwriter Frank Seravalli, Michael Leighton did not have a good game in his final conditioning AHL contest. The Flyers will have to recall him now, and a decision will have to be made. Keep your money on Bobrovsky for now.

Joffrey Lupul played over 14 minutes in his first NHL game in nearly a year. He was pointless and minus-1, but the Ducks were shutout. His owners are hoping that he’ll get a shot – and soon – on the Perry/Getzlaf line. It will happen, but I couldn’t tell you if it will be next game or in 10 games. When it does, I think Lupul will take off. It was what got him going last year before the back problems started rearing its ugly head.

Shane Doan has six points in his last six games. Radim Vrbata was shut out in five of those six games. Related.

Ottawa prospect Bobby Butler was pointless in his NHL debut, and a minus-1. But the Sens got the win so that should be enough to keep him around for another game.

Chris Kelly was pointless in 10 games before getting a hat trick Sunday. His ice time has gone up noticeably in the last five games, and he has 11 shots on goal in his last three. Despite those promising signs, the PP time is not there – so I doubt anything will come of it. But remember when he took over for Jason Spezza for a couple of dozen games and was nearly a point-per-game in that span? What an anomaly that was, eh?

After Marty Turco gets another loss Saturday, Corey Crawford gets another win Sunday. Get on board the Crawford train!

Dion Phaneuf is expected to return either for Toronto’s next game, or the one after. Eight of Tomas Kaberle’s 12 points have come during the 14 games that Dion was on the shelf. Look for Kabby to possibly regress again.

Don’t forget – in just three days – the DobberHockey event will be held in Vancouver (Richmond) at the River Rock Casino Resort, Lulu’s Lounge, at 6pm. Come and enjoy some beverages, some hockey talk, and meet myself and of course Jeff Angus. Prizes to be given away include an autographed stick (Vancouver Canucks team)
