Tonight is the DobberHockey event at the River Rock Casino Lulu’s Lounge. Deals on food, lots of hockey talk, you get to meet Dobber, Angus, and others who are known in the community here. We also have a lot of give-aways including an autographed hockey stick (Canucks’ entire team). Starts at 6pm Thursday – hope to see you there!

Jeremy Morin scored his first goal of the season for Chicago last night. He played close to 15 minutes – right where I'd expect him to be with both Kane and Hossa out.

The Penguins have quietly risen to the top of the NHL, thanks in large part to the play of #87. However, their off-season signings on the defense have been a huge part of the success as well.

Both Martin and Michalek are playing tough minutes in all situations. Marc-Andre Fleury has benefitted greatly from the vastly improved defensive group in front of him.

Anders Lindback got the start again for the Preds against Detroit. He will be the guy for the next few weeks while Rinne is out.

Malkin missed his third straight game with a knee injury. It doesn’t appear to be serious, but the team isn’t revealing much.

Jeff Deslauriers must be really mad that Gerber was called up ahead of him. Check out this bizarre video.

Logan Couture is quickly working his way up on my favourite players list. Not only is he producing well above where most had him pegged (on pace for 35 goals), he is logging important minutes for the Sharks.

I wasn't huge on his short-term upside because of San Jose's center situation (Thornton, Pavelski, and even Marleau), but he is finding a way to play a lot.

Jason Demers scored his first goal of the season last night.

Linus Omark is making his NHL debut tomorrow against Tampa Bay (thanks for the correction).

Some quick thoughts from the Canuck game:

Jeff Tambellini was very, very impressive. He is worth a look in most league formats at this point.

Keith Ballard is starting to see some PP time. I’d get him on the radar in deeper leagues.

Corey Perry was great, Ryan Getzlaf was invisible.

Cam Fowler looked good – his goal was a fluke bounce, but he logged tough minutes and was pretty solid overall.

Saku Koivu looked great. He seems to be skating a lot better than he has in previous seasons.

Kevin Bieksa needs to do more of this:
