The Midseason Guide, you can buy it here, re-released Friday with some updates to prep you for this weekend’s midseason draft.

Please note – there may be some website interruptions over the next 48 hours, possibly for as long as an hour as we migrate to a new server. If everything goes as I hope, then the speed and feel of the site will be much much faster and smoother.

Niclas Bergfors has six points in five games, as does Andrew Ladd.

Ladd had a very quiet December after a torrid start to the season, while Bergfors has been in the doghouse of Atlanta coach Craig Ramsay most of the season.

Joey MacDonald, step on up! Jimmy Howard could be out for a while with a knee injury, and Chris Osgood is also on the shelf with hernia surgery. Tough times for the Wings…

Chris Stewart was pointless in just under 16 minutes of ice time in his return to the lineup.

Ilya Kovalchuk had perhaps his best game of the season for the Devils last night – two goals and a very invovled game. A sign of things to come? He was really clicking with Zajac on the top line.

Marcus Johansson was flying for the Caps last night – easily their best forward.

Do yourself a favour and catch Phoenix's next game – Keith Yandle is emerging as a superstar defenseman before our eyes.

One player who will have immense value at the deadline this season is Chris Neil. Some may not like the style of game he plays, but he can fight, hit, score, and play at both ends of the rink. I imagine contending teams will be lining up to acquire him.

On an offensive club Neil's numbers would obviously improve.

According to ESPN's John Buccigross, the Stars won't be trading Brad Richards. For a team desperate to get into the playoffs (looking very good right now), this is a smart move.

Even if Richards bolts in the summer, the Stars still open up nearly $8 million of cap space.

Sticking with trade rumours, Colorado apparently has placed Brandon Yip on the open market. They have a lot of forwards like him (decent at everything, no real standout skill aside from a good shot), but they lack quality defensemen after trading Hannan and losing Quincey for the season.

They took a gamble on Matt Hunwick (and have come up empty to date).

The Leafs have sent down James Reimer to the AHL.

Chris Pronger skated yesterday, but he is still at least two or three games away from returning to the lineup.

The San Jose Sharks are leaning on Dan Boyle way too much. Proof is in the pudding – Fear the Fin with a great breakdown of San Jose's defense and why it is struggling.

Is Jeff Carter having a good season? This blog certainly thinks so. Carter doesn't get the offensive zone starts that many of his teammates do, but he is still producing. Offensive zone starts is a huge reason why the Sedin twins have taken the next step offensively (Kesler and now Malhotra take so many of the tough defensive zone faceoffs now).
