Dobber: I am completely re-writing the first three segments of my six-part Deadline Day series. So much has gone done that I’ve changed everything. Even Chris Drury’s injury changes the Rangers from “being unable to afford Brad Richards” to no being able to squeeze him in. I’ve also dug deeper into Cap Geek to pull out some more RFA’s from the team’s minor league system for a more thorough take. These re-writes will be up later today, back on the main page. And hopefully Part 4 as well.

Souray is on re-entry waivers. His cap hit would now be only $2.5 million per season (approximately). Does he get claimed?

Dmitri Orlov has officially joined Hershey of the AHL for the remainder of the season. One of the best young defensemen to own in a keeper league.

I will weigh in with my thoughts in a few hours. A few things off the top of my head:

Pietrangelo’s development allowed St. Louis to make this trade. A PP combo of Shattenkirk and Pietrangelo in the future (heck, even now) is worth salivating about if you are a fan of the Blues.

The Blues probably “win” this deal right now, but it is a risk worth taking for Colorado. Johnson seemed to be stagnant these past couple of seasons in St. Louis, but he still possesses the raw tools and the hockey IQ to be a dominant franchise defenseman.

Saw this on the forums – Erik Karlsson is a dreadful minus-25 in his last 21 games.

Sounds like the Thrashers are going to give Wheeler a shot at center. He’ll definitely get more ice time (especially on the PP) than he did with Boston.

The Wild have lost their best player for at least the next little while – Mikko Koivu hurt his hand (most are speculating it is broken) last night against the Ducks.

Kyle Brodziak had three points last night – his fantasy value increased with the Koivu news as well.

As I am off to bed, I just found out that the Blues have moved Erik Johnson, Jay McClement, and a 1st round pick to Colorado in exchange for Kevin Shattenkirk, Chris Stewart, and a 2nd round pick. The fantasy ramifications of this are absolutely massive. I'll break it down in the morning.

Brad Marchand continues to surpass even the wildest expectations set for him. He scored twice against Ottawa last night and is on pace to be the first Bruin rookie to break 20 goals since Brad Boyes five years ago.

Marchand plays a lot like Oshie in St. Louis – he may not produce every night but he is impossible to miss on the ice. Since moving to wing he is able to use his speed much more effectively on the forecheck.

Bobby Butler has goals in three straight. Great timing considering I started writing about him five days ago for my latest column. Young player usually need a long leash to produce, and Ottawa has given Butler one.

I thought Robin Lehner looked pretty good, all things considered. He was definitely better in the first half of the game, though.

Kampfer still saw a regular shift with Chara and close to three minutes in the power play. Johnny Boychuk was the healthy scratch with Kaberle in the lineup, but I could see those two flip-flopping in and out of the lineup.

Alex Kovalev is playing like a man who wants to be traded.

Pavel Datsyuk has nine points in six games since returning from a broken wrist.

The Devils are 14-1-2 in their last 17 games. The NHL season sure is a long one…

Kovalchuk has goals in four straight.

Lundqvist was spectacular for the Rangers in the loss – I feel like I have typed that statement a few times before…

Colaiacovo left the game after being nailed by Pat Kaleta.

TJ Oshie had a fantastic game for the Blues – a goal, an assist, tough minutes logged on both the PP and PK, and he was all over the ice.

Alex Pietrangelo is now on pace for over 40 points. He has four in his last five games and seems to get better each and every night. He has surpassed EJ as the offensive defenseman of the future in St. Louis, and Colaiacovo's constant IR visits have increased his role even more.

A funny video from Bloge Salming.
