My April Fool’s gags over the years:
2011 – Radulov Announcement
2010 – Rankings are discontinued
2008 – DobberHockey has been SOLD
2007 – I have to shut down DobberHockey
What a bunch of suckers!
The Rangers have sent Mats Zuccarello to the AHL.
So now it's the Rangers who can't buy a win and now that is the team that the Hurricanes and Leafs are trying to catch. New York has scored just five goals in their last five games.
Both Moulson and Parenteau hit the 50-point mark for the first time in their careers last night.
So Isles rearguard Dylan Reese had three points in his NHL career (41 games) and then three points last night. He is not a fantasy option, call it a one-off.
Al Montoya: 9-4-4 now. I really like this guy for next season with DiPietro guaranteed to be hurt, I like Montoya for 30 wins. I'll say it here. The Isles will finally win a few more and take that next step, and Montoya will get into 60 games. Give DiPietro 20 and Poulin 10 (games). And don't correct my math, all team goalie games add up to above 82.
Craig Anderson is now 9-4-1 for the Sens.
Jordan Staal has now gone five games without a point. But the Pens as a team are not scoring. It's probably killing Crosby to watch that. I believe Sid plays a couple of regular season games.
Give Simon Gagne 13 points in his last eight games.
The Senators have signed coveted college free agent Stephane Da Costa to a two-year deal. We had Da Costa ranked No.2 on our list of potential college free agents in the Midseason Guide (didn't buy it? Well, hope you learned your lesson). Think Tyler Bozak.
The Playoffs are less than two weeks away, I'll have my NEW Interactive Playoff Draft List out this Friday and will re-post it/update it the Sunday after. This thing is awesome – very flexible. It has my picks, it has your picks, the ability for you to choose each round, manually add games, whatever you need.
Dennis Wideman is out for at least two weeks with a lower body injury. At this point in the season, getting more info than that is fruitless and probably misleading.
The Hobey Baker finalists are: Columbus prospect Cam Atkinson (recently signed a contract with them). Toronto prospect Matt Frattin and undrafted forward Andy Miele. I really like Atkinson, and I think Miele should get on your radar given his 71 points in 39 games to lead the nation. Frattin is ranked 243 on my prospects list, but moves up with this news.
In Tomas Kubalik's first career NHL game for the Blue Jackets, he tallied two assists in 14 minutes of ice time. Kubalik jumped onto my radar after an outstanding training camp, coming from out of nowhere to actually get consideration for a roster spot when there was no roster spot to give. He'll get a long look in training camp, but with Matt Calvert on the scene and Cam Atkinson (and Nikita Filatov) it will be a battle. Although, as a Filatov owner in one of my leagues, I really want him to just get dealt and get a fresh start somewhere else. But I digress – Kubalik is a good one, keep an eye on him. Second-line upside.
Kubalik replaced Rick Nash in the lineup, who is out with an undisclosed injury. Nash probably won't miss too much time.
The Oilers have signed CIS player of the year Hunter Tremblay. At 25 years of age, he is likely destined to bolster their farm system, but he'll get a look in the fall. You never know with these CIS players, given the different level of competition there. I don't see top six upside though – but then again, I didn't see that with Steve Rucchin either, and he was a top sixer for a couple of years.
Patrick Sharp is targeting a return for next week.
The Coyotes sent OEL down to the AHL.
The Flames have sent Ales Kotalik back down to the AHL to clear cap space for the return of (drumroll)… Daymond Langkow. Langkow will return from his broken neck after a full year on the sidelines, this Friday.
Frans Nielsen left last night's game with a suspected concussion.
Erik Karlsson looked like he got cut on the leg by a skate and left the game after six minutes of ice time. He'll be a few days on the sidelines I'm sure.
The aforementioned Dylan Reese, he of the three assists last night, also got into a fight. Here it is versus Ruslan Fedotenko:
