The Rangers have signed Callahan for three more years. Cap hit is just under $13 million.

For the eighth straight season I am doing the offseason fantasy lowdown for every NHL team over at The Hockey News. Here is the first installment.

The Penguins have added to their depth, signing Jason Williams to a two-way deal. I put his situation akin to Brett Sterling's from last year, although he doesn't have the offensive skill that Sterling has, in my books. It took four or five injuries up front before Sterling got his cup of coffee.

Nikolai Khabibulin has withdrawn his appeal on his drunk-driving conviction in Arizona and he will accept his 30-day jail sentence. It will be served before training camp begins, according to the Canadian Press. The Oilers will lose more games in front of him than they will in front of Dubnyk, so if I'm an Oiler fan I would have been hoping for an eight-month sentence – anything to keep him off the ice longer!

I thought Khabibulin’s game had gone south in his Chicago years, and that he was far too injury prone. So I was shocked when the Oilers signed him. Anyway, an .890 save percentage puts you in the AHL – his Stanley Cup keeps him in this league. Dubnyk’s SP was .916. Dubnyk, of whom I’m a fan, won 12 games out of 35. Khabibulin won 10 out of 47.

As speculated would happen, the Preds have signed the leading scorer for Team USA at the Worlds, prospect Craig Smith. I don't see him making the team this season, but he is one to keep an eye on and is profiled in the Fantasy Prospects Report.

The Jets have signed Ivan Telegin to an entry-level contract. The fourth rounder from 2010 is ranked 221 on my Prospects List.

Kris Draper, as you know, has retired. I thought he deserves at least a mention here, as he actually held fantasy relevance in 2002-03 and 03-04. In those two seasons he averaged 38 points, 68 PIM, plus-14 over 75 games.

Call it a soft spot for my old buddy Ryan Shannon (long-time readers know about my thoughts on him – basically I loved his potential four years ago, but untimely injuries reduced his role to that of a third liner), but I have a feeling we'll see career highs this season. His idol is Martin St. Louis (even wore the No. 26 in Ottawa). Now, will that career high be 28 points, or something nicer? He's 28 now, which is later than when St. Louis made his mark.

Here's your hockey fix – the Canucks with pristine PP control for the full two minutes, from 2007:
