Rob Rossi is reporting that Crosby may join the Penguins for their opening road trip. Not sure if that means he’ll play, though…

My first piece for the Canucks Army – I’ll be writing there every Thursday this season, so you now don’t have to be bombarded with my Canuck stuff on here!

Fantasy Guide and Draft List updated as of this morning. iPhone draft app too. After this, Dobber will update Friday, Sunday and next Wednesday. There will then be one final one on Friday of next week. So four updates to go!

The Isles waived Ty Wishart yesterday. I haven't seen him play this preseason, but it seems like a far fall for the former 1st rounder and the player they received in exchange for Dwayne Roloson at the deadline last year.

Craig Smith had two assists for the Preds last night, helping his cause of making the team.

Depth is not a friend of fantasy hockey – no Nashville forward played less than 12 minutes last night, but no forward played over 16 minutes, either.

Evander Kane had a great game for the Jets – lots of hits, shots, and two goals. Blake Wheeler and Bogosian were also really good. Encouraging to see a very involved game from Bogosian. Perhaps a fresh start is just what he needed…

Zac Dalpe played almost 19 minutes for the 'Canes – he was pointless in the game, but only one forward (Jokinen) saw more ice than he did.

Pat Kane scored a goal, but more importantly won eight of his 12 faceoffs at center. He's going to work out just fine at center if they choose to keep him there. Incredibly smart player who thrives with the puck on his stick (a lot like Claude Giroux, another right wing turned center).

Before being kicked out of the game for a dangerous hit (more below), Brendan Smith had two helpers for the Wings.

Fabian Brunnstrom had another impressive showing – he obviously put some work in this summer, as he looks much stronger and harder to knock off the puck than he has at any other time before. He had two goals against Chicago last night.

Viktor Stalberg and Ben Smith both left with injuries. Stalberg's leg injury looked to be somewhat serious, while Smith was knocked out cold and likely concussed from the Brendan Smith hit.

I'll admit, I've been slow to warm up to Kirill Kabanov. However, this story went a long way in changing my mind. On the ice, Kabanov has continued to improve his play since the Isles took a shot on him in the 3rd round a few years ago.

A solid read on Montreal's forward situation – I agree that this is the most balanced group the Habs have iced in quite some time. Each of the top two lines will have a size/physicality aspect with Pacioretty (who I think his primed for a big season) and Cole.

Will the Devils offer Petr Sykora a contract? In Lou We Trust weighs the pros and cons.

Mark Sheifele looked fantastic for the Jets last night. I think he's earned at least a look at the beginning of the regular season.

A great read on why the Sedin twins were so good last year (and why they may regress a bit, at least at the beginning of this season). If you only read one link from the ramblings today, read this one. Zone starts are so crucial to production. Players with low zone start numbers and decent production are the true Selke candidates (Steve Ott would have been my choice last season).

Smith on Smith – intentional or not, a head shot that the NHL is trying to get rid of. Tough play to make as Smith (Ben) is shorter and cuts across, but something has to give with these dangerous plays:
