Dobber Sports

The Fantasy Guide can be picked up online in pdf form for the small price of $9.99 – and it comes with an updated spreadsheet, free. Updates are all free, download as often as you’d like. Last update was yesterday, the 19th.

Another one bites the KHL dust. Michael Leighton has made the smart move after giving the long-shot NHL contract offer a fair amount of time to arrive. But the phone wasn’t ringing so he’s off to Donbass Donetsk to maximize the money he makes playing pro hockey.

*

The Habs signed their No.3 goaltender Dustin Tokarski to a one-year, two-way contract. Tokarski, who will be 24 next month, has had two solid AHL seasons after a disappointing 2010-11. But he’s in the wrong organization if he wants to be an NHL starter. But at this point, he’s looking like a backup at best anyway. And that’s if he can get out of the AHL.

The Blues have signed their second-round pick William Carrier to an ELC. The left winger had 112 points in his last 100 QMJHL games and will return there again in the fall. In fact, with a couple of blue-chippers still waiting for an NHL job (Rattie and Jaskin), I don’t see an offensive prospect like Carrier getting a look before 2017. You can read up on Carrier’s fantasy profile right here.

And speaking of DobberProspects, Brendan Ross put together an early ranking of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Teemu Selanne was in Anaheim practicing and will make his future plans known next week, per the OC Register. I’d link to it, but they want subscribers now. I’m all for subscribing to 30 online newspapers for my job, but not for $7 a week. Greedy much? So I’ll subscribe to the forward-thinking papers who try for a reasonable price, and I’ll look to the bloggers for my hockey news for cities like Anaheim.

Here is my Hockey News article yesterday. Offseason fantasy look at the Flyers and the Coyotes.

Yahoo! Kicks off their fantasy hockey this week with the release of their rankings. And Puck Daddy is featuring fantasy hockey all week long, including four pieces from DobberHockey. Angus kicks it off today with a look at forwards, and Amato and Laidlaw look at defensemen and goaltending over the next two days. I finish off on Friday with a look at sleepers and busts. I’ll post the links here as they get published.

The content for DobberHockey is starting to pick up now, even if the hockey news remains rather dead. That doesn’t stop opinions though and the writers are starting to return from vacations. A new writer is on the way today, Nathan Weselake – the “Puck Pastor” (yes, he’s actually a pastor) gives you a very creative slant on the fantasy hockey world. I read his first submission and it actually got me thinking in a new direction on certain things. I don’t need to tell you how rare that is. I’m a pretty stubborn guy who relies on my own observations more than the opinions of others.

Also – ‘LIKE’ Dobber Sports on Facebook as I will be making several announcements this week about some exciting things coming up (starting today). I see these smaller sites and blogs with 5000 likes on their FB page and I wonder why Dobber Sports doesn’t have that, which is why we’re working so hard to make the FB page relevant.

Brent Seabrook named his newborn son Carter Seven Seabrook. So in honor of that:
