If and when the Grabovski signing is announced – the full breakdown will come on the main page. It may be delayed until tomorrow afternoon, but it will be up there as soon as I can get it done.

Grabovski signing with Washington is a huge boost for Grabovski (offensive role) Erat and Brouwer (his likely linemates) and essentially all of Washington’s wingers. It hurts Perrreault significantly, and Laich will probably see a slight decrease in scoring opportunities, too.

My latest for Canucks.com – on the return of Chris Tanev. Not sure how much (if any) offensive upside Tanev has, but I’m a bit curious to see how his next few years play out.

At the very least he is going to be a rock solid #3/4 defensive guy.

Chicago inked Teuvo Teravainen to a standard rookie contract yesterday. He will spend at least one more year in Finland (as the top center on his club – Jokerit).

Opening up the mailbag this weekend for one last time (for a while, at least).

More on my Tomas Hertl comment from yesterday (he will be among the best rookies):

San Jose needs a top-six winger, even with a healthy Martin Havlat. Joe Pavelski will play with the big guns on the PP, but at even strength he will center line three.

Even with a healthy Havlat, Hertl has a spot on the second line (provided he earns it). And if/when Havlat gets hurt, he becomes an even more important part of the San Jose attack.

Some Hertl clips – the goal at the 0:20 mark is really, really impressive. Super strong on the puck:

Marcus Johansson is primed for a big year. He looks so much better on the LW than he ever did at center, and the Caps are going to give him a full season beside Backstrom and Ovechkin. Could Johansson hit 60 points there? I think it is a very real possibility.

Mike Green is back. He may not play 82 games (or even 72), but he finally started to display some of his dynamic ability and offensive swagger this past season.

Green had 12 goals in only 35 games, which equates to a 28-goal pace this season. Playing along Karl Alzner helped a lot, obviously, as Alzner is one of the best shutdown defensemen in hockey.

If you feel like gambling on a defenseman early on in your draft this year, the upside doesn't get much higher than with Green.

Linemates last season (yes, Green's second most common linemate was… himself):

The Canucks want to get younger this season. Here are the odds I have of their young guys making the team:

Corrado – 90%

Jensen – 50%

Lain – 40%

Gaunce – 30% (him or Lain, not both)

Horvat – 10% (again, only one of the three centers)

Shinkaruk – 5%

Montreal inked rugged defenseman Douglas Murray to a one-year contract yesterday. Not much fantasy relevance here.

*

He had a really strong rookie camp, and now he is being rewarded for it – Carolina has inked Sergey Tolchinsky to an entry-level contract.

He is another player short in stature, he is listed at 5’8, (and seems smaller), but he did well against the bigger players at camp and scored 51 points in 62 games in the OHL last season.

It’s expected the winger will now represent the Hurricanes at the upcoming Traverse City Tournament, (he previously had committed to play for the Rangers.) We will have more news about that as we get it.

After the tournament, Tolchinsky could be invited to the Hurricanes training camp, or he might return to Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, his junior team.

John Tortorella gave a really candid interview to the local paper yesterday. Here are some of the thoughts on it from the Canucks Army.

And here is the interview from the Vancouver Sun. Tortorella sure is a nice guy when there is no hockey being played!
