Tampa signs veteran winger Brenden Morrow to a one year contract…

News: The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed veteran winger Brenden Morrow to a one year deal worth $1.55 million.

The Lightning get: A 35 year old winger who will add to their bottom six group of forwards, likely in a checking role. Morrow is also capable of playing up in the lineup for short periods when needed. He posted 13 goals and 12 assists in 71 games last season.

Fantasy Impact: He is long removed from his days as a premier offensive contributor. His best season came way back in 2007-2008 when he posted 74 points, 105 penalty minutes, and 207 shots as a member of the Stars. Since then, production has dipped and he's bounced around a few teams (Pittsburgh and St.Louis) before landing in Tampa. The Lightning have a bevy of young forwards who will all be fighting for limited top six and powerplay time. In all likelihood Morrow will find himself on the third line, with the potential for some duty on the second powerplay unit (averaged 59 seconds per game last season). Tampa was the ninth highest scoring team last year, which bodes well for those in deeper leagues where Morrow will still be selected.
