Looking at the fantasy impact of the latest contract signings.

This past week has been very eventful on the contract-signing front. Whether it is short-term fixes to cover for injuries or long-term investments, each new agreement has an impact in fantasy land. Most importantly, we will that real-life value to the team and fantasy value can be two very different things.

Martin Brodeur (STL) – 700,000 / 1 year

When Brian Elliott went down to injury, the Blues reacted by signing future Hall-of-Famer Martin Brodeur to fill some of the void. Normally paid like a starting goaltender, Brodeur has never had a cap hit this small which means that expectations can be tempered from a fantasy standpoint.

While nothing is guaranteed, he should be able to get you a good winning percentage in the games that he plays. Additionally, his GAA should be helped by the excellent team around him. The only area of concern is save percentage which for Brodeur has been below .910 since 2010. While the defensively-sound Blues will help him in that area, his totals in recent years have been miles away from what we would consider acceptable for a goaltender.

For now consider Brodeur as nothing more than a short-term fix. He costs next to nothing and can give you a small boost if your goaltending is hurting you at the moment.
