Looking at the development of Andrighetto and Draisaitl, a couple of prospects who have made their NHL debut.

Sven Andrighetto

Spending his draft year in the Swiss-B league, Andrighetto tallied 23 points in 38 games played. Not having shown enough to convince NHL scouts that he was worth a draft pick, he went undrafted and decided to bring his game over to the QMJHL.

He kicked-off his North American career with a bang, scoring 74 points in 62 games, including 36 goals. The catch? Andrighetto was a minus-23 and remained undrafted.

His sophomore season in the Q, he showed tremendous improvement across his entire body of work. Andrighetto skated in nine less games (53) and scored 24 more points (98), while improving his plus-minus to a plus-25, a colossal improvement.

This production finally led to him being drafted, in his third attempt if your counting. Andrighetto was selected in the third round, 86th overall in 2013 by the Montreal Canadiens.

The Swiss rookie is an explosive playmaker who can play all three forward positions.  Growing on the wing, the Habs had Andrighetto playing center in Hamilton, but he reverted back to the wing very quickly upon his first taste of NHL action.

He possesses excellent skating ability and high-end creativity with the puck. Only standing at 5-9, height is an issue, but he does have a little sandpaper to his game as he goes hard to all areas of the ice to corral pucks and make plays.

Sven scored a goal in his first NHL game vs the Dallas Stars, and added another goal and assist in his next 2 games. He then went scoreless in his next nine and is currently (Jan.24) in Hamilton honing his defensive game.

It seems quite apparent that Andrighetto has a nice NHL career ahead of him as a top-six forward, and it is just a matter of time before he puts it all together and becomes a regular contributor.

Expect somewhere in the 25 goal, 60 point range in his future.
