Fantasy Impact: The Canadiens acquire Devante Smith-Pelly from the Ducks for Jiri Sekac.
The Canadiens get: a 22-year-old right-handed power forward who has yet to show consistency in his first full season at the NHL level but has proven himself in the AHL.
The Ducks get: a 22-year-old left-handed forward who has yet to show consistency in his first season at the NHL level but was a highly sought-after free agent following a breakout KHL season last year.
Ultimately, this probably hurts Sekac because the Ducks' system is so loaded with forwards. Not that the Canadiens' are struggling for prospect talent but the Ducks simply have an exceptional amount of talent in the system. Sekac could find himself caught up in the numbers game down the line.
Players this helps, in order:
Devante Smith-Pelly
Players this hurts, in order:
Dale Weise
