Taking a look at some of the hottest line combinations of the week (16-22).
Lead us forwards…..
Johnny Gaudreau – Sean Monahan – Jiri Hudler (Calgary)
The Calgary Flames are perhaps the league’s biggest surprise this season. The Flames currently occupy a playoff spot in the tightly contested Pacific Division. Many people thought there season was as good as over when news was released that Mark Giordano was done for the year with a torn biceps tendon. However, the Flames have fought valiantly since then and have managed to do what was thought to be the impossible and protect their playoff spot. A major reason for this has been the outstanding play of this line. I can’t tell you how much I despise Hudler… as he’s been making my life hell since he was acquired by the 2nd place team in my fantasy pool (I’m in 1st). This line combined for 11 points in their past three games last week. If the Flames expect to make the post-season, they will need this line to continue their production. There is no reason to believe they won’t continue to produce down the stretch as they will be leaned on heavily.
Defend this…..
Anton Stralman – Victor Hedman (Tampa Bay)
I really like this pairing. Since the return of Matthew Carle these two stud defenseman have been reunited which could be a blessing for Hedman owners. Last week they combined for six points in three games. Hedman seemed to be much more involved offensively and this bodes well for all owners. I wouldn’t hesitate on riding either of these defenseman down the stretch as this pairing will only continue to pile up points.
Shea Weber – Roman Josi (Nashville)
Something tells me these two are about to get hot. Weber and Josi combined for three points last week in only two games. Additionally, the tandem were shooting a hell of a lot in those two games as they combined for 15 shots. The Predators should get things turned around down the stretch and a big part of that will be based on the play of this pairing. A rested Nashville squad should start lighting the lamp again in the weeks to come.
Marc Methot – Erik Karlsson (Ottawa)
Was there ever really a doubt that Erik Karlsson is one of the best fantasy owns. Karlsson currently has 58 points on the season with some really solid peripherals. His +/- has gone from a -15 from last season to a +8. He really seems to be clicking on all cylinders at the moment and especially on the PP where he is extremely potent (25 PPP on the season). Methot has been lucky enough to pair up with the young Swede and last week these two combined for six points in 3threegames. I don’t recommend picking up Methot anytime soon but anyone paired up with Karlsson could see some points come their way.
