Here are the Top 100 goalies to own in your keeper league…

I'm presenting the Top 25 goalies below, and the rest of the Top 100 can be found over at Goalie Post here. Link to the Top 100 is along the top menu on that site. Don't forget to sign up for free email notifications on starting goalies while you're there!

Goalies are ranked below in terms of tiers. For those who like to split hairs, I left the actual ranking in place even though a goalie rated 96.4 is pretty much the same as the one rated 94.3…it's just a matter of your fantasy team's need (immediate help more than long-term, or vice-versa).

I’m perplexed as to why Gibson would be ranked so low? Especially below older goalies like Lundqvist and Rinne… also suprised to see Bishop that high… In a dynasty/keeper trade, I can’t ever see taking any of those guys over Gibson… I’m just an amateur, but I would have expected to see him in the top 10 atleast.

They’re all rated Tier 1, so they are equal. Trades would be based on need (immediate or future)

When half the starters in the league are Tier 1, you need a new system. You should also be clearer about what categories are considered in your rankings.

In my leagues, Bishop and Darling don’t have nearly the value you have them pegged at here. Fleury and Smith likely have more value than where you have them.

If you can get Matt Murray straight up for Schneider or Bishop, I think you have to pull the trigger regardless of whether you are thinking short-term or long-term.

I appreciate the suggestion. In a draft, one Tier 1 goalie is as good as another. Price could be a superstar one year, a bomb the next. Bobrovsky couldn’t be given away two years ago…then he wins the Vezina.
That’s just how goalies are. So at the draft table, I’m happy getting any Tier 1…and I’ll spend my higher picks on skaters. I’m happy with the setup here. I’m not going to anoint just 5 or 6 Tier 1 goalies when I feel I’m happy with a handful of others. We want to draft security (contract, proven history, recent history) and then hope for the best (as we see each year, we still get let down by some goalies who are “locks”). I don’t see how you do a list any other way.

Murray for Schneider or Bishop are each Tier 1. If you’re thinking long-term, you go Murray. If you need help right now, you may want to trade Murray for Bishop. Preference/need.

      Darling is a Tier 2. Any lower and he’s a 40-game backup.

Bishop is doing just fine and that contract will see to it that it will continue. And he’s proven. He’s as good as any other Tier 1 guy.

But Darling is a 40-game backup.

Today that looks very true (actually on pace for 50 games, but I get your point). I’ll give it another month to be sure and in the summer, he’ll shoot back up again because contract will ensure he gets another shot at No.1. Teams will push and push and push the guy they think is (and pay as) their No.1.

For sure. I was high on Darling coming into this year but his play says otherwise. Obviously a variety of factors there and he’ll probably bounce back.

What are your thoughts on Mike Smith for rest of this season? I just acquired him to join Freddie for the next two months, very complimentary schedules. Was looking at Dubnyk but their numbers are surprisingly similar this year but cost less (keeper league too, so dubs is worth more).

          • Dobber 2018-01-25 at 11:28

Smith sure looks great for the rest of this year.

Murray is still considered top-tier? I drafted him early (in part because you ranked him #1 IIRC, but I’m not blaming anybody), and in my league his high GAA (2.93), low save % (.903) and only one SO etc are absolutely killing me. Jarry has a better line, and he’s no bed or roses. Am I missing something here??
