Digital Fantasy Hockey Cards are Here!

As you well know by now, our player profile pages on Frozen Tools are the best in the industry. Eric Daoust, and myself, have certain things we look at when evaluating or comparing players for the purpose of fantasy leagues – and we built these pages accordingly. After that, it was just a matter of adding more, based on your requests. After a couple of years of that, there's really nothing more to add. From game logs, to customizable windows, to line combinations and advanced stats – whatever tools you prefer to use, we have them there in an easy-to-read format.

Then we wanted a summary page that we could just use for the purposes of social media. So Eric put together a 'player card' that summarized the key stats, as well as per-game stats. Once that was complete, we backburnered it and moved on to other sections of Frozen Tools that we wanted improve.

However, one day it dawned on me while browsing through Twitter (ahem – X). A couple of people in the Advanced Stats community produce hockey cards that look sharp, have nice coloring, present well, and provide advanced statistical detail as well as a score that summarizes it. And I thought: "why don't we pretty up our own cards and make them actually worth sharing and posting?"

I casually threw the idea at Daoust in a 'when you have time' kind of spirit – and he immediately sunk his teeth into it. And when Eric gets pumped up about something – he works it to perfection. The look was quickly revamped to match team colors. The GP, TOI, PPTOI were moved to the top area beneath the name to make room for new stats (PIM and IPP). At a glance, it gives us a lot of what we need.

And then we added our own summary number: Fantasy Score

Here is Pierre-Olivier Joseph's card.

The look, and the info provided, has received a major facelift. The Fantasy Score is right up there at the top. You can access any of these cards via their player page and the little link beside the team name.

See below.

The Fantasy Score is a general gauge of fantasy interest across all league types. It factors in the players ranking in our Keeper League Ranking, Roto League Ranking, Cap League Ranking and our Top 200 Prospects.

We have similar cards for goaltenders, too. With one glance, you can quickly see how the goaltender rates against his peers for Win%, GAA, SV%, QS%, RBS%, GSAA/60 and our new stat: Quality Weeks. The Fantasy Score for goalies is a work in progress – for now, they look okay, and as we see an opportunity to tweak, we will tweak. Joseph Woll

And, of course, we have a new report for all this. Our Fantasy Score button can be found in the Report Generator for an instant look at the overall interest that a player generates across fantasy hockey leagues. The direct link for this new report is here.

Enjoy this free new feature, and be sure to pick up this year's Fantasy Guide if you haven't already!
