Fantasy Take: Oilers Add Henrique & Carrick

Edmonton boasts one of the best schedules in the stretch run of the season, so them acquiring Adam Henrique makes him an immediate target for fantasy managers. Getting him and Sam Carrick for draft picks hints that we could see another move from them as they do have depth players and prospects that could be moved as well. The pair of former Duck centres will push a few bottom players out of the lineup, and allow for much more flexibility with lineup deployment, such as how to slot in Ryan McLeod or Adam Henrique on the wing or at centre.

Here is the full breakdown:

The Lightning were the third team in here, utilizing some of their LTIR room to add a draft pick to their very-depleted stock. The draft pick likely gives them more flexibility in future negotiations as we approach the deadline than the cap space would have.

What the Oilers Get:

Adam Henrique is in the midst of one of his best seasons despite being 34, and is a very capable defensive player and faceoff winner to boot (53% on the draws this year). He has been a reliable part of Anaheim's power play as well, but that is likely not something he will be asked to do a ton of in Edmonton. His offensive zone start percentage of 41% will likely translate over to the Oilers, where he can take some more of the defensive burden off of lesser players and the big guns. On paper this reads like an excellent fit for Edmonton.

Carrick is a fourth-line version of Adam Henrique, and will help eat up limited minutes in his own end. He also likes to throw the body around, with over two hits per game this season.

What the Ducks Get:

A giant hole at centre, which could be filled with some prospects like Cutter Gauthier once their seasons are over, but for now will mean a lot more minutes for Leo Carlsson (when healthy), Ryan Strome, and Trevor Zegras. This also frees up some room on the power play, when Mason McTavish looks like he would be the best bet to get the initial bump up to the top unit.

More minutes for their young players is a good thing at this stage.
