2024-04-14

Hello and welcome back to Geek of the Week! Anyone have any transactions left? If so, I will highlight three players that may peak your interest for some last-minute streaming. These players are hot and will help you maximize games played to finish the season. I'll also highlight some heavily owned players that should be dropped in non-keeper leagues.

The Stats provided do not include this Sunday's games.

Players That Should be Dropped After Monday

All of the following teams play their last game of the season on Monday. If you have players on these teams that aren't keepers, they should be dropped on Tuesday for some streamers.

Buffalo Sabres

New Jersey Devils

Nashville Predators

New York Rangers

~

The following teams play only one game from Tuesday to Thursday, and none on Monday. If you have a waiver-level player from these teams, you may consider dropping them on Monday for a streamer.

Philadelphia Flyers

St Louis Blues

Arizona Coyotes

Anaheim Ducks

Carolina Hurricanes

Columbus Blue Jackets

Florida Panthers

Colorado Avalanche

Dallas Stars

Streamers to Finish the Season

Martin Pospisil9% Rostered

This is the fourth time I am mentioning Pospisil in this column. He has become a multicategory asset, averaging close to four hits per game over the season. He is glued to Nazem Kadri and Andrei Kuzmenko at even strength, both of whom are very hot. He has offensive potential playing with them, while providing valuable coverage in hits and shots. Calgary plays two games from Tuesday to Thursday, one of which is against the last-place Sharks. Posipisil can make for a great Tuesday-Thursday stream after dropping a player who plays zero games after Monday.

Nick Foligno8% Rostered

Chicago, like Calgary, plays on Tuesday and Thursday as well. They can make for a good Tuesday-Thursday stream after dropping a player who is done their season on Monday.

Foligno is back from being injured and finds himself back with Connor Bedard at even strength and the first power-play unit. Foligno has averaged close to two SOG and three hits per game on the season, providing great category coverage. He also has accrued 16 of his 37 points on the power play. One interesting stat about Foligno is his number of multi-point games, which currently sits at eight. Of his 25 games played with a point, eight of them were multi-point efforts. This high ratio indicates that Foligno is more of a boom-or-bust pick offensively. Yet, given his peripheral coverage, the busts may not be so bad. If he booms, he can get you just as many points as a superstar, with some PPPs as well. If he busts and posts zero points, he can still provide you with 3-5 SOG, and 2-7 hits in his two final games.

If you are looking for pure offense, Philipp Kurashev is only 10% owned and has the same deployment. He's showed great chemistry with Bedard, has more offensive talent than Foligno, and has a high amount of multi-point games as well. The only downside is he won't provide you with much peripheral coverage.

Pavel Dorofeyev – 1% Rostered

Vegas has clinched a playoff spot and has just about clinched their seeding as the second wild card team. Their two remaining games, against Chicago and Anaheim. may be meaningless. For this reason, it will be pertinent to keep an eye on projected lineups for them on Tuesday. If they rest their key players, their bottom six may have great opportunities to produce with extra ice time.

Dorofeyev's stats don't jump off the page, averaging only 0.5 points and two SOG per game this season. Though, he is only averaging 13 minutes of ice time, with less than a minute of power-play ice time. Dorofeyev's shot/60-minute numbers at even strength are second on the team behind Jack Eichel. He is first on the team in Goals/60-minutes. If he were to keep the same rate of shooting and be given 16-18 minutes of ice time, we would see an average of 3 SOG per game and a 40-goal pace on the season.

If Vegas rests their stars, Dorofeyev may be shot into a top-six – maybe even a top-three role for one, if not both, of the final two games. These games are against terrible teams, giving Dorofeyev an opportunity to provide great offensive production to finish the season. This is a low-key stream, but will depend on Vegas resting their stars. Keep an eye on those lineups on Tuesday!

If you're after hits only, good ole reliable Keegan Kolesar is only 4% rostered and should provide 3-10 hits in his final two games. He may even get more ice time too if they rest their stars.

Good luck to everyone! Hope you can win your final matchups! As fantasy hockey season is closing, Geek of the Week will return as "Geek of the Month" moving forward. Keep an eye as I will be reviewing the True Value Goalie stats on the season (Quality Weeks), reviewing multicategory studs and key players to look out for next season.
