Welcome back in, everyone! So let me paint this picture for you all. There I am in my yearly review (virtual), and I get a notification come across my iPhone that Colton Parayko is to be sidelined for the next six weeks with a knee injury. So what you're basically saying is, he's cooked for the rest of the regular season.

I currently roster Parayko and somehow have kept a playoff spot despite the absolute litany of injuries that I've dealt with, so this news comes as no surprise to my ICU fantasy hockey squad. Last week, no injuries – win! This week no injuries (so far) and winning. This led to the end of my review to the end of the workday searching up and down my league's waiver wire for a replacement that fits my team, the schedule, and has a role on special teams.

I'm sure you can go elsewhere for fantasy advice, and they'll tell you tidbits like, "Oh wow yeah, Leafs power play mhmm", but it has to be a short list of people who run a league and look into all these details as much as I do. The fantasy hockey season is an absolute grind, but we have to press on. Each week is a battle in and of itself as there's no rest from October to April. Let's take one step closer to playoffs and try and cap this week off with wins all around.

The Immediate Fix (Grab this guy and use him for the next several days)

Teuvo Teravainen, RW, Chicago Blackhawks (Rostered in 35% of ESPN leagues, 55% Fantrax, 23% Yahoo) – I for one, did not imagine writing up Teuvo Teravainen unless it was for Capped (new articles every Thursday morning, tell a friend), and describing to you how the Hawks adding him was a move to get to the salary cap floor. While that may be true, he's also a decent piece to add for the weekend and week upcoming.

I take it upon myself to watch the Blackhawks so you all don't have to. Last night's game was entertaining enough minus the last goal in OT. You're telling me Seth Jarvis can look at a goaltender wrong and get an interference call, yet that goal stood? Either way, the Hawks have looked…I'll say "better" since coming back from break (minus two periods against Vegas), and Teravainen has been a big part of that success. He has nine points in his last six games played and just eye test, has looked excellent across from Tyler Bertuzzi at even strength.

Look, I'm sold here, and it also has to do with the Hawks upcoming schedule to where Teravainen may be able to continue on his current successes offensively, with games upcoming against Nashville, San Jose, and a slumping Vancouver team. If you need an add to make, this is a nice piece to incorporate into your team and with 140 SOG so far on the season, there may not be too many wingers available on your waivers with that many pucks on net over the course of this season.

The Building Block (Buy now, sit back and enjoy the production)

Valeri Nichushkin, RW, Colorado Avalanche (Rostered in 48% of ESPN leagues, 80% Fantrax, 53% Yahoo) – Here we go again! I wrote about Valeri Nichushkin as a Building Block back in November, and here we are again in March. The upside is just too high not to highlight him this week.

Bottom line, if Nichushkin can play like he was this time last year, then the Avs are right on their way to another deep Cup run. Seriously, we go back to the beginning of the season and the wingers for this club are Nikolai Kovalenko, Ivan Ivan, and Joel Kiviranta. There's time's where his points per game is right up there near the top of the league, and he also provides plenty of hits and blocked shots to contribute to any lineup.

The only issue is the one that frustrates fantasy managers like me, and that is whether Nichushkin is available from night to night. I don't like saying that I'm "hopeful" that he'll be in the lineup each game because hope is a bad business model, but think of it this way: If he's full go for four weeks, would you rather be rostering him or watch someone else in the league be rewarded with those points? This is a move you make if you have the add/drop to do, and the roster to support it. If those two criteria sounds like you, then pulling the trigger on this add makes for a move that could help propel you toward the playoffs.

The Odd Man Out (His short-term value is cause for concern)

Miro Heiskanen, D, Dallas Stars (Rostered in 68% of ESPN leagues, 87% Fantrax, 81% Yahoo) – Miro Heiskanen underwent knee surgery, and is considered week-to-week with a potential return date of March 31. That's right smack dab during fantasy playoffs to where his role on the Stars may look very different come the end of this month or into early April.       

It's been a strange teeter tooter with the Stars and defensemen Thomas Harley and Miro Heiskanen. If Harley is named the power play quarterback, often that's the time that Heiskanen starts playing well offensively and vice versa. Now, with Heiskanen out, Harley has taken on full top power-play duties for the Stars with the team looking fantastic as of late, with goals in each of their last four games coming into Thursday night. If you're rostering Heiskanen, there's no harm in stashing him on IR, just be ready for a smaller role for him if he is to return this fantasy season.

The Anchors (They’ll do nothing but disappoint even over the long haul)

Steven Stamkos, C/LW, Nashville Predators (Rostered in 86% of ESPN leagues, 85%, Fantrax, 82% Yahoo) – I always hate writing about players that I like as Anchors, but I had Steven Stamkos slated in as my Anchor earlier in the week before his three-point game against the Bruins.

It's all gone wrong for the Preds this season, and while there's light at the end of the tunnel (cap space and multiple first round picks), it's been bleak this season. I think what encapsulated all this was an ill-fated pass that Stamkos made on Sunday that led to an Islanders goal…by Ilya Sorokin. Stamkos had a 13-game pointless streak snapped this week, but I'm sure that 13 games for him is a career high in games without a point. I cut ties with Juuse Saros, so you can cut ties with Stamkos. It's a bummer to do, but sometimes in fantasy the hardest cuts to make are often the right ones.

Love ‘Em (These squads are sure to pay dividends in the coming days)

This period runs through March 6 – 16  

Winnipeg – Winnipeg grades out great upcoming, and I have two explanations as to why. One, they're a good team. And two, they're a good team with Connor Hellebuyck in net.

Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh will be home all next week, and we love a good homestand here at DobberHockey. They're a Love 'Em…unless pieces started getting traded away. Tread lightly, folks.  

Vegas – I love the Knights upcoming. They'll see Pittsburgh (who we just mentioned, oddly enough), twice, along with Columbus, and Buffalo.   

Leave ‘Em (These squads will leave fantasy owners sorely disappointed in the short term)

Calgary – This is a club that won't impact fantasy for most out there, but they will only be in action twice next week which brings them down a bit.  

Dallas – Same goes for two games for Dallas, only this one will make it difficult for many fantasy players out there. It's always tough to navigate a week when a team like the Stars have a light week.

NY Rangers – For a club looking to get into the playoff picture, games on the road in Winnipeg and Minnesota in the middle of the week is a difficult stretch. The Rangers are a stay away for now.
