Hello everyone and welcome to the latest edition of Geek of the Week. We are wrapping up the first weekend of hockey action and it has been a great start from historic rookie performances to insane saves by veteran goalies.

For our second edition, I thought it would be fun to completely overreact to some of the multicat performances from the first weekend of the season. No amount of hyperbole is off the table in this one.

Elias Lindholm, C, BOS – 4 GP, 2 G, 2 PPG, 2 A, 12 SOG, 11 Hit, 3 Blk

80-point Lindholm is back on the menu. Coming out of the block hot, the veteran center looks like one of the five best centers in the NHL right now. In all seriousness there is something here for the center who hasn't hit 50 points in 3 years.

There is ample scoring opportunity on this Bruins squad as seen by Lindholm being top 20 in shots through his first three games. If Lindholm can get back over 175 SOG paired with his strong defensive category value (114 HIT, 79 BLK in 2024-25), a top 75 or even top 50 season could be in the cards.

Justin Brazeau, RW, PIT – 3 GP, 3, G, 8 SOG, 6 HIT, 3 BLK

A deep sleeper pick of many in 2024-25, Brazeau is finally breaking out in a big way as he heads toward a point-per-game season. He should easily blow past his 22-point sophomore season. Where he goes from there is when we need to take things back down to reality.

He is only averaging just under 13 minutes of ice time over his first three games, which is in line with his first two seasons. He will need that to tick up to have a significant impact in fantasy beyond being a good streamer. If that uptick happens, there is some serious deep league potential in his profile.

Artem Zub, D, OTT – 3 GP, 1 G, 2 A, 9 SOG, 7 HIT, 5 BLK

If you drafted Zub you are going to get the dub. He is on his way to being the top D-man in fantasy this season behind a championship contending Senator squad. In reality Zub is actually one of the players on this list that I think is most likely to be taking a step forward.

With over 20 minutes of ice time a game we know that the defensive stats are going to be there to provide a floor. His career high of 25 points seems to be reasonably within reach and anything beyond that would instantly make him a very intriguing cheap option for filling out your defensive depth.

Colton Dach, LW, CHI – 3 GP, 1 A, 3 SOG, 16 HIT

Dach is the only player to make the list without currently providing some semblance of multicategory value already. Dach makes up for it by being set to blow past Kiefer Sherwood's hit record and potentially even the 500-hit mark.

The reason I put Dach on this list is that he is skating next to Connor Bedard. As long as that continues and the minutes stay in the mid-teens, there is potential for the offensive categories to catch up to the defensive categories. If he can even find himself in the 20-assist range, he would provide you an out of position prototypical d-man line as a center/wing combo for fantasy.
