Sunday's games opened with the Vancouver Canucks taking on the Washington Capitals, and the Canucks continued their strong road form, extending their streak to three wins.

Vancouver had a bit of a scare early on when Filip Chytil left the game after taking a heavy hit from Tom Wilson in the first. No official update yet, so keep an eye on Logan Clarkson's Injury Ward to see where things go from here.

Even with Chytil going down, Elias Pettersson stepped up and settled things by opening the scoring for Vancouver. He has not exactly exploded offensively yet with just one goal and two assists through six games but the effort has been there beneath the surface. He blocked three shots against Washington, bumping his season total to 12. It's not earth-shattering, but it's a nice boost for fantasy managers waiting on the offense to pick up. Most of those blocks came in the final minutes, fending off Alex Ovechkin's late attempts to tie the game. That's a star player doing some dirty work, and while that is not what we only want out of Petterson, it is good to see that he is contributing in other ways even on quieter scoring nights.

Tyler Myers had a strong night, putting up a goal and an assist, one of just two Canucks to reach multi-point production. The other was Conor Garland, who chipped in two assists and now leads Vancouver with six points on the season.

Thatcher Demko has gotten the season off to a solid start, sitting at 3‑1 record with a .922 save percentage and a perfect quality start rate through his first four games. Although early, Demko is showing the kind of high-floor, high-ceiling performance fantasy managers have been waiting for. We know Demko has the potential to be an elite goaltender, but injuries have always been a lingering concern. So far, though, everything looks on track, and he is starting to look like that reliable backbone Vancouver needs in net.

Charlie Lindgren took the loss allowing four goals in the first two periods putting the Capitals behind. Their defensive corps lead the scoring for Washington with Jakob Chychrun and John Carlson scoring a goal a piece with Ryan Leonard scoring his second goal of the season on the man advantage.

Dylan Strome and Tom Wilson also racked up a couple of assists and Wilson also threw around the body with seven hits in the game. He has also been on a hot streak with seven points in the last three games and leads the team in point production with nine on the season.

Detroit's 4–2 win over Edmonton headlined with Dylan Larkin's two-goal, two-assist performance.  He has now recorded a point in every game to start the season. Meanwhile, Emmitt Finnie continues to stay in the discussion with his first NHL career goal and finished the game with two goals and an assist, which naturally sparks speculative interest. Finnie continues to be a potential waiver wire add in deep leagues, and Detroit as a whole is trending toward being one of the more stackable offenses early in the season. Naturally, Finnie's production long-term value hinges on whether Detroit gives him consistent top-six and power-play deployment. As it currently stands, Finnie has seen majority of his TOI next to Dylan Larkin, not too bad of a gig.

Detroit has now won five straight since loosing their opening night game to the Montreal Canadiens and now sits atop of the Atlantic at the time of this writing. Looks like the Shana-plan is finally coming to fruition, maybe.

Edmonton, on the other hand, looked sluggish, getting just three shots in the first period and failing to establish any sustained possession.

Leon Draisaitl did chip in a late goal, but it was not enough to close the gap. This loss extends their losing streak to three straight, following a 5‑3 loss to the Devils on Saturday where they gave up five goals on 33 shots, highlighting their continued struggles on both ends of the ice.

In what you would not expect to be such a low-scoring affair, the Chicago Blackhawks edged the Anaheim Ducks 2‑1 in overtime, thanks to the heroics of Ryan Donato's game-winning goal.

What was also very impressive was Frank Nazar and his effort on this play that directly leads to him scoring a goal.

Spencer Knight is putting together one of the more impressive starts early this season. His performance against Anaheim was solid with 38 saves in an overtime win where he single-handedly kept Chicago in it for long stretches. In his first five starts, Knight is sitting on a .937 SV% and 1.96 GAA. The win column does pop out, but Knight is the clear 1A on a Blackhawks team that will give up shot volume, which is fantasy gold for managers who value saves and steady deployment. He is still available in nearly half of Yahoo! leagues.

On the other end of the ice, the Anaheim Ducks fell short but Lukas Dostal had a very solid outing with a 28 save performance. Mason McTavish netted the only goal for Anaheim on the powerplay with just 35 seconds left in the same to force overtime.

Jackson LaCombe finally cracked the scoresheet with an assist on Mason McTavish's lone goal, and I know a lot of fantasy managers are already getting impatient with the lack of production. Don't panic, the points will come. What actually matters right now is usage, and LaCombe is getting all of it. He led all Ducks in ice time last night at 25:54 and is averaging over 25 minutes per game on the season. He also chipped in with four shots, a hit, and two blocks, so the peripherals are quietly solid. His underlying numbers are lagging behind, but the deployment has not dipped at all. If anything, it is trending up.

Utah edged out Boston 3–2 with Dylan Guenther burying the go-ahead goal midway through the third, and it was exactly the type of confidence win you want to see from a young team finding its identity at home. Clayton Keller posted two points (1G, 1A) and Logan Cooley also found the scoresheet (1A), while Nick Schmaltz quietly ran the show with two assists and now leads the Mammoth in early scoring.

All that early-season panic around Keller has cooled off fast. Six points over his last two games (2G, 4A) will do that. He is back to driving play, and more importantly, Utah is feeding him prime usage with heavy power-play touches and high-danger looks.

Utah's whole top six, especially Keller, Schmaltz, and Guenther have established legit fantasy floors with the upside to pop on any given night. Guenther's game-winner was a perfect example of a quick read and a strong finishing touch. Meanwhile, Vitek Vanecek held things down in net while Karel Vejmelka took a breather. If you were hesitant on Utah skaters early on, no need to be anymore.

David Pastrnak did everything he could to drag Boston back into this one, scoring both goals but it still was not enough. The Bruins have now dropped four straight after opening the season with three wins, and while the schedule has not done them any favors (Tampa, Vegas, Colorado, and now Utah), losses pile up all the same. Unfortunately, the path forward does not look any better. Their next three come against Florida, Anaheim, and Colorado with two of those being tough matchups for a team already slipping in the Atlantic standings. The Bruins are currently sitting in the middle of the pack right now in the Atlantic but momentum is headed in the wrong direction. If they don't stabilize soon, they could fall down the ladder a lot faster than they climbed it.
