Fantasy Take: Marchment Traded to Columbus

The Seattle Kraken sent left wing Mason Marchment to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick.
Marchment lasted just 29 games with the Kraken after being acquired from Dallas in the offseason. He has registered four goals and 13 points in 29 games, currently on a sub-40-point pace. Although he had been used on a scoring line with Matty Beniers and Jordan Eberle, Marchment didn't quite seem to click in Seattle. With the Kraken hitting the skids after a good start, a Marchment trade for futures made sense.
Marchment should fit in as a middle-six forward with Columbus, similar to his role with the Kraken and Stars. He has good size (6-5, 212 lbs.) and can help in bangers leagues because he averages over a hit per game. He is also scheduled to be a free agent in the offseason, so he is a low-risk acquisition for the Blue Jackets. Columbus is at the bottom of the Eastern Conference but not extremely far from a playoff spot with nearly all the teams separated by fewer than 10 points.
Don't expect this trade to impact either team much, as Marchment is more of a secondary scorer than anything. He has gained attention in fantasy leagues with some scoring runs in the past. If the Kraken are in fact ready to sell their veteran expiring contracts, Berkly Catton could see his minutes increase once he returns from injury. The 19-year-old Catton was a WHL scoring star, but he has been held to just over 12 minutes per game in his rookie season. Those minutes could increase sooner if the Kraken continue to use Catton as a left wing as opposed to as a center.
